Byrd on the Beat: 57th Annual Grammy Nominations

The Sunday after the Super Bowl has established itself most years as “Grammy Sunday,” when the Recording Academy gives out its Grammy Awards. Even though there are more than 80 categories’ worth of nominees for the 57th annual event that happens next February in Los Angeles, this column will serve to distinguish the “guitar girls” from the rest of those nominees.

Press Release:  The tallies are in and the Dawn Sears & Friends Benefit for Lung Cancer Research held on November 30 was a great success raising over $100,000 for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.  Sears attended the show and spoke on behalf of lung cancer research.  Reba McEntire, The Time Jumpers and Riders In The Sky all performed.  Olympic gold-medalist Scott Hamilton emceed the event.  Also on hand was Sears' physician Dr. Leora Horn and Ingram Professor of Cancer Research Dr. Pierre Massion.  Both took brief turns at the podium to talk about lung cancer research and also to commend Sears on her perseverance.
