Trisha Yearwood to be inducted into Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville on September 10, 2015

Critically Acclaimed Music Industry Artists to be 64th and 65th Stars

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Award-winning recording artists Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks will receive the 64th and 65th stars on the Music City Walk of Fame in an induction ceremony on September 10 at 2 p.m. in Walk of Fame Park, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp announced.

“Trisha and Garth are two great artists who represent what makes Nashville special,” Nashville Mayor Karl Dean said. “They are musicians. They are entrepreneurs. And they are generous community advocates. The way they care about Nashville is as inspiring as their music. Garth stood strong with the city during the 2010 flood recovery, and we will never forget that. The city of Nashville is proud to recognize their accomplishments as individuals through inducting them into the Walk of Fame, and we are thrilled they will be our first husband-wife team to receive this honor.”

Yearwood has sold more than 12 million albums and is a platinum-selling, multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM Award-winning recording artists. Her number one hits include “She’s In Love With The Boy,” “XXX’s and OOO’s (An American Girl),” and “How Do I Live.” Since 2007, the superstar, whom Entertainment Tonight dubbed the newest “lifestyle maven,” has written three New York Times Bestselling cookbooks, hosted six seasons of her Emmy Award-winning Food Network show, Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, and debuted a line of cookware, Trisha’s Precious Metals, and her own home furnishings line, Trisha Yearwood Home Collection with Klaussner Home Furnishings.

Brooks is the number one selling solo artists in US history with more than 136 million albums sold, according to RIAA. His worldwide critical acclaim includes being named the best-selling artist of the last two decades by Billboard, Nielson and SoundScan. He has received an abundance of industry accolades and awards in his career, including multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM awards and being inducted into the International Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. His many number one hits include “Friends in Low Places,” “The Thunder Rolls” and “The Dance.” Brooks has assisted in many humanitarian efforts, including performing 5 concerts in 2 days in 2008 to assist fire relief efforts in California, and performing 9 sold-out concerts in 6 days in 2010 to raise money for Nashville’s flood relief efforts.

The couple married in 2005 and recently relocated back to Nashville to continue their careers. They are both currently performing in the three-year Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood.

“Their impact individually and collectively on Nashville’s musical heritage is immeasurable and has spanned decades,” said Ken Levitan, Chairman of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. Board of Directors. “Their worldwide success has helped shine a spotlight on Music City and been a catalyst for millions of fans to come here.”

The Music City Walk of Fame was created in the fall of 2006 on Nashville’s Music Mile, a roughly one-mile stretch that connects downtown to Music Row. The Walk of Fame is a landmark tribute to those from all genres of music who have made significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and have contributed to the world through song or other industry collaboration. With the addition of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, the Walk of Fame boasts 65 stars. Permanent sidewalk medallions with the artists’ name displayed in a star-and-guitar design will be installed in the sidewalk along the Music Mile.

The Music City Walk of Fame is an official project of Music City, Inc., the charitable foundation of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC), and is produced with the support of founding sponsor Gibson Guitar and sponsors Durango Boot, Hard Rock Cafe, the City of Nashville and Metro Parks. Nominations are open to the public and are accepted in the categories of Artist, Musician, Songwriter, and Producer/Music Industry Executive. Application forms are reviewed by the Music City Walk of Fame anonymous selection committee.
