They say behind every great man is a great woman, which was certainly the case for Johnny Cash with his hit song, as June Carter Cash actually penned the song and her sister Anita Carter first recorded it. Johnny Cash’s version would make the song an international hit, but it’s often forgotten that two Carter women are behind the song’s origin. A cousin of June and Anita, WILDWOOD wrote the piano part and plays the viola on the recording.

Today WILDWOOD released the remake of the legendary Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”
WILDWOOD on recording her cousin’s classic: “Recording my cousin June’s song “Ring of Fire” live in the studio gave me chills. I felt her spirit in the room and could imagine her huge smile looking down on me. I only knew her when I was a kid, but the short time I spent with her left a lasting impression, and every time I sing her song, I feel her presence.
I’ve always looked up to my cousins June and Anita. They were strong, intelligent, empowered women who settled for nothing less than everything they wanted in life – they had successful careers and they built strong families, and from knowing their children and hearing their stories, I know they were excellent mothers. They had faith that could move mountains. They had grit to overcome any challenge life threw at them. They were kind and gentle to everyone they encountered. And most of all, they had boundless hearts, capable of a profound love that they shared generously with the world. Releasing my own version of “Ring of Fire” is both an homage to these two women and their legacies as songwriters and artists, and a personal privilege for me to get to be the next generation of Carter women carrying on a century-old musical tradition.”
“Ring of Fire” follows the release of “Moonrise” and “Secrets” earlier this year.
