Amanda Kate gets wired in new single “Buzzin”

California country artist Amanda Kate’s new single “Buzzin” dropped on Friday, September 25, with witty lyrics and toe-tapping melody.

Kate’s most recent album, Time, tells a deeply personal story inspired by two things: time and her mom. After her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer, Kate was overwhelmed with the importance of time and just how precious it is. Her mother helped her write each song on the album, giving the mother-daughter duo a physical body of work in Time to capture the essence of their relationship.

Can you tell us a little more about “Buzzin.” What is your favorite part about the song?
I wrote this song as a bit of a pep talk to myself. I was getting frustrated with people telling me I needed to write songs that felt more mainstream, more pop, less twang. I honestly never thought I would record it! I played it for a few people and they really thought it was fun and they liked it so I figured what the heck, let’s do it! It’s about staying positive, staying true to who you are, and just living your best life. My favorite part of the song is the ending—my little girl makes an appearance.
What was the songwriting process for the single?
I think I wrote this in thirty minutes, haha. I didn’t really put a ton of time into it, it just kind of happened.
How did you first get started in music?
I started singing with my mom when I was about two years old. I always knew I wanted to sing country, it didn’t matter what type of music I sang, it always came out country.
We love your song “Healing When I Ride” especially the music video. Could you tell us a little bit more about the song and what the video means to you?
Thank you! I love that song so much. It really has taken on a life of its own with the listeners and I love that! I wrote it with my mom about her journey with cancer and how she really felt healing when she would ride her horses. She rode almost every day until she passed away. The horses have such a bond with us and the song tells that story.
Who are some of your musical influences?
My mom—always. To be honest, I feel like my influences change all the time. Sometimes it’s Carrie Underwood, sometimes it’s Celine Dion, sometimes I get where all I listen to is Brooks & Dunn, or George Strait. The voices of country music that truly I feel shaped me and my sound were Wynonna Judd, Faith Hill, and Reba McEntire. Those were the iconic voices I grew up listening to.
What do you hope your fans/listeners take away with them when they listen to your music?
I hope that when they listen to my music they feel like they get to know another part of me. I hope they hear the conviction in my voice for what I’m singing about. I hope people will fall in love with a fiddle and pedal steel again in country music.
What is your advice for young women who hope to work in the music industry?
Work hard, stay focused, and stick to your guns on what you want your career to look like. Have a goal, write it out, and look at it every day. I’m 32 years old and I never thought in a million years I would be still chasing this dream after having a baby and getting married. But when you love what you do it’s really hard to let it go. I am so thankful I get to still chase this dream every day!
What’s next for you?
We’re in production for a new reality series I’m producing called “Cowgirl Nights Under The Lights,” a show dedicated to all things country and western. We will be highlighting new artists and western lifestyle brands!
