Product Review: Monoprice Retro Vision Tele-Style Guitar

Killer Guitar, Great Value – the Monoprice Retro Vision Guitar (Tele-style)

Monoprice has a line of Tele, Strat, P Bass, Jazz, ‘V’… and otherstyle instruments at an encouraging price.

I’m reviewing their “Retro Vision” (Tele type $132.99) solid body electric guitar in their ‘Blonde’ finish. It has a cool yellow color (also in Black, Metallic Blue & Sunburst) with traces of the basswood grain subtlety peeking through. The 22 fret maple neck with a rosewood fretboard has a flat radius for faster playing and easier chord work. Each fret is professionally smooth. The nut is cut perfectly. The tuners are self locking and they really work!

I put this guitar in the backseat of my truck with no case in Nashville, drove three hours to Knoxville, unloaded and set the guitar in a stand. The next day, I picked it up and it was in tune!

The bridge is the original standard three saddle (chrome plated), which in my opinion is the road to the true Tele sound and feel. The strings do not go through the body, they stop at the tail of the bridge plate. The three-ply white pickguard is a nice feature with this price. Standard Tele-style bridge and neck pickups. They sound rockin’ and funky!

All Monoprice guitars are set up by a master luthier before they are shipped out. When you open the box, it’s ready to play. It’s a very good axe. You won’t find another guitar better for your buck$.
