“The Burney Sisters aren’t even old enough to drive their tour van, but they have the talent and wisdom of artists three times their age… [they] recall fellow dynamic familial bands like First Aid Kit, the Avett Brothers and the Carter Family… immense talent.”
– Wide Open Country

“Talent that’ll blow you away… Their vocals are powerful, their melodies are pitch-perfect — and, yes, their family harmonies are on point.”
– The Boot

(New York, NY) The Burney Sisters, the Americana-pop duo comprised of Emma and Olivia Burney, have released the new “Where We Stand,” via a premiere on Wide Open Country. The single is the title track to their new EP, which was released this fall.

At the tender ages of 11 and 13, The Burney Sisters have progressed from covering songs by their favorite artists such as The Avett Brothers, Cowboy Junkies, and First Aid Kit, to writing and performing their own material. Primarily playing ukulele, elder sister Olivia wrote the bulk of the material on 2017’s debut EP, Running Away, and multi-instrumentalist Emma has recently begun contributing to the composition and arrangement of The Burney Sisters’ songs as she expands her instrumental arsenal to include guitar, bass, banjo, keys, and fiddle.

Written as a follow up to the song “Say It To My Face,” from Running Away, the catchy and sassy vibe of “Where We Stand” has made it a fan favorite during shows, so it made sense to capture the energy of The Burney Sisters’ live performance in the video. The concept for the video was inspired by a memorable day of back to back shows. Immediately following a performance in their hometown of Columbia, MO, the band piled into the van and headed to Jefferson City, MO, for a second set. Almost the whole crowd followed, creating a magical experience filled with friends and family. Captivated by that story, director Karl Bussen (Bussen Productions) decided to recreate the experience and shoot two performances in Columbia, at Rose Hall and Logboat.

Since the September release of Where We Stand, The Burney Sisters have played several notable performances, including an appearance on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, The Roots n Blues n BBQ Music Festival (alongside such luminaries as The Avett Brothers, Lake Street Dive and more) and The Gaslight Studios Showcase at Rose Hall in Columbia, MO., the same venue where portions of this video were shot.

The Burney Sisters are currently in the studio working on their debut full-length album, to be released in 2019.
