“(Never Have I Ever) is nostalgic but inclusive, imagining the score for a sweet girl-meets-girl rom-com, complete with fizzy punk-pop riffs, millennium-era hooks, and the kind of bright, punchy synths that would make Vitamin C, well, smile.”– Teen Vogue

New York, NY (May 10, 2019) – Maddie Ross understands the importance of creating authentic music, and the necessity of visible, queer role models. Today, she releases her debut, full-length album, Never Have I Ever via Sentimental Records – listen via your favorite DSPNever Have I Ever was made entirely by women, produced by Maddie’s longtime girlfriend Wolfy and co-written between the couple. Teen Vogue says, “(Never Have I Ever) captures the relatable butterflies-in-your-stomach drama of young love within a positive, visible queer narrative, positioning Ross at the center of her own love story.”

“My music has gotten a lot of comparisons to teen movies and ‘girly’ pop rock. We were like ‘F–k yeah, that’s exactly right’. So for this LP, every song is written to score an iconic scene from our favorite teen movies,” explains Maddie.

Never Have I Ever bursts at the seams with energy, humor, infectious melodies, confessional lyrics, and abundant references to some of the best hits and movie synchs of the ’90s and ’00s. Yet, while each song is heavily inspired by specific movie scenes, the lyrical content is much more personal. Most of the movies referenced are devoid of the anguish, self-discovery, and eventual pride embedded in the adolescent queer love experience.

As Ross puts it, “We really tried to think of each song as more of a movie score. The lyrics aren’t describing the scene that is happening, they’re just a perfect backdrop. Never Have I Ever is inspired by a variety of movies, but the story it tells follows a plot of its own. In our wildest fantasies, someone would write an adorable girl-meets-girl rom-com, and use the entire album as a score.”

Maddie just shared new video for track Liv Tyler“, that features channels of MTV/VH1/Nickelodeon/Rom-Com content from her youth, but in her fantasy, all of the clips are queer, diverse, and inclusive. Pride.com stated, “This music video will make all your queer ’90s dreams come true.” FLOOD Magazine declared, “With radio-ready production values that mirror bubblegum pop rock, ‘Liv Tyler’ does the titular actress—not to mention her Empire Records character, Corey Mason—proud.”
