MXR® Timmy® Overdrive

The MXR Timmy Overdrive provides a huge, responsive range of gritty and textured tones that enhance the sound of your rig while preserving its fundamental character—and in an MXR mini housing, this pedal will free up some serious pedalboard space. It’s based on a design created by veteran pedal builder Paul Cochrane that’s widely celebrated among high level pros, from first-call Nashville session player Kenny Greenberg to first call L.A. player Lyle Workman to rockstar Brad Whitford. When Paul decided to bring his pedal to a wider audience, he chose to work with the MXR design team. “It’s an honor to work with MXR,” Paul says. “My first ever pedal was a Phase 90.”

Thanks to Paul’s inventive implementation of clipping options and tone controls, this pedal is a working guitar player’s dream come true. The Clip switch provides three different clipping styles that cover a multitude of playing situations, whether you need an always-on sound that’s big and bold with a ton of headroom to slam the front end of your amp, a more compressed and saturated sound for fat, gnarly chords, or anything in between. The Bass and Treble controls offer further refinement of your sonic profile. Firstly, they’re cut-only, keeping the character of your signal intact and making it super easy to dial in a clean boost. Secondly, Paul wired the Bass control to affect your pre-OD signal so that you can your maintain low end at lower Gain settings and the Treble control to affect your post-OD signal so that you can adjust the top end to keep dirty settings smooth and musical.

Finally, the MXR design team worked closely with Paul to select an op-amp that perfectly complements his expertly crafted design. They landed on the LF353, a trusty component well-respected by Dunlop engineers for providing high output, high gain, and hi-fi signal delivery. The resulting MXR Timmy Overdrive is a professional-grade must-have for players who want sweet, harmonic breakup that responds to playing dynamics and maintains the personality of your rig at a fraction of the size of a standard pedal.

MXR® Dookie DrivePedal

Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar tone on Green Day’s groundbreaking album Dookie sounded dirty and punchy with the perfect amount of articulation to express the musicality of his fast, melodic riffs. He got that sound by running his signal through two heavily modified amplifiers—one scooped with a ton of gain and the other with a well-defined midrange. When it came time to mix the record, the band blended the two signals together in different ratios to match the vibe of each track.

The MXR Dookie Drive Pedal captures the sound of both the amps used on that record in a single pedal so that you can dial in your own variations of the famous Dookie sound. We borrowed the amps themselves so that the MXR team could carefully analyze all the sonic qualities that make them sound so darn good. After much analysis and A/B testing, our engineers rebuilt the amps from scratch in pedal circuit form and fit them into a single housing. The High Gain and Crunch Gain sections each have their own controls, while the Blend control allows you to mix them together just like Green Day did in the studio. If you want some extra scoop in the midrange of the overall output signal, just hit the Scoop switch.

The Dookie Drive isn’t just for Green Day fans—this totally unique pedal provides a full harmonic range of overdriven tones for a playing experience that is full of depth and dimension.

To celebrate the launch of Green Day’s eclectic thirteenth studio album “Father of All…”, this special limited edition version of the pedal features the album cover’s rainbow-upchucking unicorn over a brushed aluminum housing. In the words of Billie Joe: “Nothing says f*** you like a unicorn.”

  • Get the dirty, punchy overdrive sound that Billie Joe Armstrong used on Green Day’s Dookie
  • Captures the tones of both of Billie Joe’s custom amplifiers in a single pedal
  • High Gain section supplies tons of scooped gain

MXR® ThumpBass Preamp

The MXR Thump Bass Preamp is a tone-sweetening, signal-boosting, and altogether groove-enhancing machine. This pedal was conceived when the MXR design team and our in-house bass players discovered that the Echoplex® Preamp’s sonic secret sauce made for just as delectable a pairing with bass as it does with guitar. Using that circuitry as a foundation, the MXR team added a simple yet potent tone-shaping interface so that you can dial in the perfect bass sound for the stage and the studio.

Crafting the sound you need is easy. The Echoplex Preamp circuit conditions your signal with a carefully balanced EQ profile, and this pedal’s tone controls let you take it from there. The Treble and Bass knobs cut or boost frequencies at 8 kHz and 40 Hz respectively, while the Mid knob cuts or boosts the midrange as set by the Frequency knob, from 250 Hz to 1 kHz. This range of frequencies was selected to give players maximum flexibility and minimal fuss when refining their bass signal.

Whether you need to punch up a solo, boost your signal in a live mix, or sculpt more edge into the sound of a passive bass, the Thump Bass Preamp packs incredible versatility into an MXR mini housing.

  • All the tone-sweetening versatility bass players need in an MXR mini housing
  • Combines the Echoplex Preamp with a three-band EQ and mid-frequency adjustment
  • Punch up a solo, boost your live signal, or sculpt a more aggressive edge onto a passive sound

The Peak control acts like the rocker pot of a wah pedal, setting the frequency center of the effect exactly where you want it so that you don’t have worry about bumping the rocker and losing your position. Find your sweet spot and start jamming.

  • Get the sound of a fixed wah without the rocker
  • The richly resonant secret weapon sound of many a guitar player

Hetfields White Fang Pick Tin

As one of the greatest riff masters of all time, James Hetfield needs gear that performs as monstrously as he does—picks included. When he came to Dunlop looking for a pick to meet his high standards, we worked closely with him to create a solution that keeps up with and even enhances his performance.

We used the Flow Standard Pick 1.0mm as our starting point. The thrash titan put it through a full battery of tests on the road and came back to us with the tweaks and adjustments he needed to make it just right. First, we incorporated the Black Fang Pick’s blended beveled edges for a super snappy attack that rings out with bright articulation, ensuring that every note and chord makes an impact through all that speed and gain. Next, we made it a bit heavier, going to 1.14mm—not normally available in the standard Flow Pick line—for the perfect balance between mass and articulation. Lastly, we enhanced the grip, creating a custom pattern so that the pick stays put when Hetfield digs in.

“The White Fang Pick has amazing grip when sweating from heavy riffing, and a smaller profile to go faster,” he says. “Plus, the white is easier to see when they get thrown into the crowd.”

  • Combines the specially engineered shape of Flow Picks with Hetfield’s Black Fang Pick
  • Small profile and low profile grip provide superior control
  • Blended beveled edge allows pick to glide across strings
  • Wide angle and sharp tip focus attack
  • Perfect for Hetfield’s hard-charging riffs
