The Women’s International Music Network Announces First 2014 She Rocks Award Honorees

Janie L. Hendrix and Sheila E to be honored at second annual awards ceremony during the 2014 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California

PRESS RELEASE:  The Women’s International Music Network (The WiMN) is pleased to announce the initial honorees of the 2014 She Rocks Awards. Janie L. Hendrix, president and CEO of Experience Hendrix and its affiliated organizations, and sister of legendary guitar player Jimi Hendrix, and percussion icon Sheila E have been selected to receive this prestigious recognition.

Both women will be honored at the She Rocks Awards ceremony on Fri., Jan. 24, 2014 from 8:30 to 10:00 am at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., during the 2014 NAMM show. 

“The WiMN’s mission is to call attention to female role models in the music industry, and Janie and Sheila inspire us all. I am thrilled to honor these two iconic women, with more honorees to be announced soon!” said WiMN founder Laura B. Whitmore.

World-famous percussionist, entertainer and music icon Sheila E has collaborated with artists such as Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks, Ringo Starr, Patti Labelle, Billy Cobham, Miles Davis and more. She also toured, recorded and co-wrote with Prince for many years, while garnering hits of her own from a string of successful solo records. Today, Sheila E continues her worldwide performances, writing, music business, philanthropy, Christian outreach, and charitable work.

Janie L. Hendrix is President and CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC, Authentic Hendrix LLC, JMH Productions and the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation. Through her leadership in these companies, Hendrix is living her lifelong dream to see the musical legacy of her brother Jimi Hendrix preserved, promoted and protected. Hendrix is involved in various philanthropic and educational efforts through her participation as a board member with The Fender Foundation, Northwest African American Museum, Tabor 100, National Association of Recording Artists, YMCA of Greater Seattle Board of Managers, Friends of Jimi Hendrix Park, The Center Stage Council of The Paramount and the GRAMMY Foundation.

The 2014 She Rocks Awards marks the second event of its kind. The first took place in January 2013 and honored guitarist Orianthi, songwriter/producer Holly Knight, Mary Peavey of Peavey Electronics, Laura Taylor of Guitar Center, Pauline France of Fender Musical Instruments, Carla Black of Musicians for Equal Opportunities for Women (MEOW) and Tish Ciravolo of Daisy Rock Guitars. The second annual She Rocks Awards will include a catered breakfast, live performances, and additional honorees that are to be announced soon. A portion of the proceeds from the She Rocks Awards will be donated to the Girls Rock Camp Alliance, aiding the organization in empowering girls and women in Girls Rock Camp programs throughout the world.
