What a wonderful surprise when I received the Thalia box in order to review their capo: it looked like a gorgeous jewelry box! What a beautiful way to present a gorgeous capo and its accessories!
Having received the Thalia Capo 200 in Chrome Finish with Black Ripple Inlay in the upgraded Celebrity Gift Box packaging, which includes 2-pull out drawers with a slot for each of the 14 fretpads* included with every capo (included with standard packaging), I was excited to use it ASAP.
Trying it out at my next gig, I was amazed that I could place it from the top or from under, and that immediately it was in place. Then when playing, I had no buzz, which a lot of the time happens with regular capos that I have used. Trying to adjust in between songs is always an issue, especially when you can’t tell if every string will buzz until you are starting your song. This one just went right into place every time, no problem.
This capo felt like magic in my hand and on the neck of the guitar. I also loved the way that it can sit behind the nut rather than on the headstock of the guitar where they sometimes get squeezed out by a small tuner. Loved this as well.
Included with every capo is a series of fretpads that match the fretboard radius of your guitar, chart is included, and also includes fretpads for the mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and 12 string instruments. These are simple to replace as the mechanism to put the capo on your guitar is the same way to release the fretpad in order to try a different one. Once you figure it out, it is simple.
Thalia, named after the owner/designer’s daughter, also has a set of exotic wood picks** that I was able to try at the same gig. Needing a rough pick that will not fly out of my hand, this pick was nice, and the sound was fantastic; but in less than two hours I had destroyed the pick with my style of playing. At first, I thought I had finally found something to replace the hard to find gold Herco picks that I have used for decades, because the SOUND of the wood pick on my strings was just crisp and precise and warm all at the same time, but I would probably go broke having to use one pick for every gig. Someone that plays with a lighter touch should try these picks, because you cannot beat the sound that comes from your guitar while using them.
All in all, Thalia Capos are pretty amazing tools for string instrument players. Prices seem to start at around $64.99 depending on materials and go up from there and can be customized.
