New York, NY – October 11, 2018 – Legacy Recordings, Sony Music’s catalog division, today announces a winning assortment of vinyl releases for Record Store Day Black Friday, to be held November 23, 2018.

These seven releases on 7” and 12” vinyl showcase the depth and breadth of Sony Music’s deep library of recorded music, from rock and blues to punk and hip-hop.

Highlights from this season’s release slate include the premiere vinyl releases of outtakes from Iggy And The Stooges, live performances by Muddy Waters, rare mono mixes of tracks from The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Electric Ladyland, Rage Against The Machine’s import-only Live & Rare compilation, and The Byrds’ Sweetheart Of The Rodeo: Legacy Edition, issued on vinyl for its 50th anniversary.

Certified Classics will celebrate the 20th anniversary of OutKast’s “Rosa Parks” with a 12” single release, and the soundtrack to Bad Reputation, a recently-released documentary about rock icon Joan Jett, will also make its debut on vinyl. In September, Jett’s label, Blackheart Records, announced a deal with Legacy to distribute Joan Jett and The Blackhearts’ complete discography.

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the U.S. and thousands of similar stores internationally. In April, Run The Jewels has been named as Record Store Day’s Official Ambassador.

Legacy Recordings’ Record Store Day Black Friday 2018 releases include:

The Byrds, Sweetheart Of The Rodeo: Legacy Edition (4LP 12” Vinyl – First Time On Vinyl)

By the time Sweetheart Of The Rodeo was released in 1968, The Byrds had already changed the sound of rock music twice; from jangling folk-rock to experimental acid-rock, they constantly sought to push the boundaries of what rock music could be. The 1967 departure of David Crosby left a creative void filled quickly by country music-loving Gram Parsons, whose addition inspired Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman, already steeped in traditional country and bluegrass, to record an album comprised mostly of authentic country material in Nashville, with the aid of local session aces (including future Byrd Clarence White). For the first time on vinyl—and on the heels of a 50th anniversary tour of the album by original members McGuinn and Hillman—this Legacy Edition of Sweetheart Of The Rodeo showcases this country-rock masterpiece alongside 28 bonus tracks, including demos, outtakes, rehearsal versions and tracks by Parsons’ pre-Byrds outfit, The International Submarine Band.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Burning Of The Midnight Lamp (Mono EP) (7” Single)

Electric Ladyland is arguably Jimi Hendrix’s most authentic and personal work, a realization of music as “my personal diary—a release of all my inner feelings, aggression, tenderness, sympathy, everything” (as he said in an interview not long after the album’s release). To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the final album Hendrix issued during his lifetime, this EP offers the rare mono single mix of “Burning Of The Midnight Lamp,” plus mono versions of Electric Ladyland tracks “Crosstown Traffic” and “Gypsy Eyes.”

Joan Jett, Bad Reputation: Music From The Original Motion Picture (LP – Transparent Yellow Vinyl – First Time On Vinyl)

Joan Jett put in her hard work long before she rose to fame and scored her first chart-topping hit, “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll.” She was ripping it up as the backbone of pioneering all-female band The Runaways, starting her record label out of the trunk of a car after 23 rejections and influencing her contemporaries and generations of up-and-comers alike with her no-bullshit style. This edition of the soundtrack to the new documentary Bad Reputation, pressed on transparent yellow vinyl, features tracks from Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, The Runaways, Bikini Kill and a previously unreleased track with Jett, Miley Cyrus and Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!

OutKast, Rosa Parks (12” Single)

OutKast hypnotized the world with their eccentric style, expanding lyrical range and versatile melodic delivery on 1998’s harmonica-laced hit “Rosa Parks.” Celebrate this contagious hip-hop classic, still sweet as Georgia peaches 20 years later, with this special 12” single featuring the original version, a radio edit, and instrumental and a cappella versions.

Rage Against The Machine, Live & Rare (2LP – First Time On Vinyl)

Released only in Japan in 1997, this collection of live and demo tracks—available for the first time on vinyl—is a must for Rage Against The Machine fans! Includes fiery versions of “Take The Power Back” and “Bombtrack,” covers of N.W.A.’s “F–k Tha Police” and Public Enemy’s “Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos” (with Chuck D on lead vocals) and tracks from the band’s original 1991 demo tape.

Iggy And The Stooges, Rare Power (LP – First Time On Vinyl)

The untamed energy of Iggy And The Stooges comes to vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday on Rare Power, a collection of rare tracks from the sessions that produced their landmark 1973 album Raw Power. Seven of these nine outtakes and alternate mixes are available on vinyl for the first time, and composer Josh Mobley’s remix of “Gimme Danger” (heard in the bestselling video game Watch Dogs) is commercially available for the first time ever.

Muddy Waters, More Muddy “Mississippi” Waters Live (2LP – First Time On Vinyl)

Recorded during a club tour near the end of his impressive career, 1979’s Muddy “Mississippi” Waters Live is a towering testament to the former sharecropper who electrified the blues during the ‘40s and ‘50s. For the first time on vinyl, these additional recordings from that same tour, produced by Johnny Winter, showcase Muddy’s mastery of Chicago blues through stellar versions of “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “Kansas City,” “Got My Mojo Working,” “Corrina, Corrina” and more.
