Speaking on the making of the video Stefanie Johnson explains, “Coming together in self-isolation and finding joy through music is what this video is all about. Our world is changing quickly and we do not know what the future holds. What we do know is that there will always be music, there will always be joy and there will always be dancing.”
The video features a diverse cast from San Francisco, Campbell River, Vancouver, Whitehorse, Edmonton, Calgary, Austin, Winnipeg, Gimli, Toronto, Ottawa, New York City, Halifax, Wales, and Bristol. “Dance My Life Away” features a doctor sanitizing a stethoscope, to a Royal Winnipeg Ballet Dancer moonwalking at the forks by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. There’s a professional Juggler, one of Canada’s top models, Winnipeg’s youngest drag queen, Hollywood stunt doubles, New York City’s finest drag queen and politician, doctors, dogs, lawyers, grocery store workers, cats, babies, families, roommates, lovers, and musicians.
“My heart sat a little higher when I saw the footage roll in for this music video, I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. I was so humbled by everyone’s participation. It has taught me so much about the human spirit and our ability to prevail in times of uncertainty. We must always remember that coming together is paramount in these times and that music plays a very special role in that togetherness.” Stefanie
The duo of guitarist/vocalist Stef Johnson and drummer Jodi Dunlop first united through a mutual love of the arts, painting together in any spare time they could carve out. But that partnership born of colours on canvas soon became one of organic, unfiltered rock and roll with tinges of everything from punk, garage, and indie rock to alt-country, classic pop, and a lot more. They established that now-signature sonic foundation with their heralded debut, Desire’s Despair, and its follow-up, Still Life on Fire and have since turned heads at SXSW and major international festivals like Germany’s Reeperbahn, The Great Escape in the U.K., and Spain’s Primavera Sound
