WHY The music industry falls painfully behind most fields when it comes to the representation of women. As of March 2021, women represent only 21% of artists, 12.6% of songwriters, and 2.6% of producers, with fewer than 1% of popular songs written only by women and less than .3% of songs having a single woman writer.
