CATTLE & CANE Announce New Album Golden to Be Released November 17

New Single "IOU" Out Now

June 30, 2023 – English sibling indie folk duo Cattle & Cane are thrilled to announce their new album Golden to be released on November 17. As a preview they have released their single “IOU” that is out now. With its honest and self-reflective lyrics, IOU effortlessly illustrates why Cattle & Cane are at the forefront of the UK’s burgeoning indie-folk and Americana scenes.

Songwriter and vocalist Joe Hammill explains, “IOU is a song about that moment when two people in a relationship know it’s going to require facing things head on. Kinda like it’s time to lock the door, hash everything out, and start dealing with all the ugly stuff that’s beneath the surface and getting in the way. Like most songs on our new album, it’s a song of hope too. That idea that once the hard stuff is addressed, then we have a better chance of something better together.”

The first single “Rough Mercy” is also featured on the album and out now as well.

Having previously self-released three albums, as well as a mini album of covers, Joe and his sister Helen have cultivated a successful cottage industry with a passionate core fanbase in their native UK. Their new album ‘Golden’, released on 17th November 2023, sees the Hammills display a confidence and maturity that brings their soaring sibling harmonies and timeless songwriting to the fore.

Tours with the likes of The Head & The Heart and Half Moon Run, as well as support slots with Brian Wilson, Tom Odell and Lewis Capaldi, have helped Cattle & Cane establish a reputation as a truly magical live act – which anybody who caught their sets at Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg or BBC Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park in London can attest to.

With editorial support on playlists such as Very Nearly Nashville, Folk Pop, Feelgood Pop, Your Coffee Break, Fresh Folk, Laidback Acoustic, Feelgood Indie and New Music Fridays in multiple countries, Cattle & Cane have accumulated almost 30m Spotify streams. Over on radio, they’ve picked up praise from legendary tastemakers including Elton John, Dermot O’Leary and Steve Lamacq.

Their new album was initially slated for 2022, but Helen and Joe stepped away from music last year to focus on life away from music – without going into details, it’s fair to say that life can be tough at times. With that in mind, it’s perhaps befitting that hope is a theme that reoccurs throughout the new record, and that the importance of family is also integral to the album – which is reflected in the artwork for the campaign being built around childhood photos of Joe and Helen.
