Alt-rock/metal multi-instrumentalist Blake Red releases her electrifying new single, “Scorpion,” the first single from her upcoming EP, Out of the Cage, set to drop on October 3. “Scorpion” confronts predators who target the innocent.
Red explains, “‘Scorpion’ describes a predator or any person who has bad intentions towards an innocent individual. It’s sung from the point of view of someone who refuses to stay silent about harmful behavior.”
Produced by Blake Red, “Scorpion” was mixed and mastered by Grammy-winner Darryl Swann (Macy Gray, Black Eyed Peas), and features Tom McGeoch (drums), with Blake Red on bass, guitar, and vocals.
The release show for Out of the Cage, dedicated to Red’s late father, will take place in Chicago, on October 3, at Epiphany Center for the Arts.
In 2019, Red released SOS: Songs On Suicide, followed by 2021’s The Cradle. As her music gathered attention, hitting the charts and amassing listeners, Red struggled with mental health issues. In 2021, she admitted herself to a program to regain and consolidate her psychological health.
She’s back and better than ever!
“Scorpion” rolls out on searing guitars topped by Red’s evocative, potent vocals, full of wickedly ominous tones. Heavy growling guitars shape the dark, muscular melody, dropping down into a bass-filled bridge topped by sighing vocals. As the melody ramps back up, a tight, snarling solo imbues the tune with trenchant edges. McGeoch’s massive drums give the rhythm blocky, wedgy energy.
Drenched in metal-tinged alt-rock, with “Scorpion,” Blake Red struts not only her compelling voice but her guitar wizardry.
