Giulia Millanta Releases Her New Album ‘Only Luna Knows’

Singer-songwriter, chef, and author Giulia Millanta unveils her latest album, Only Luna Knows, created with collaborators such as Miles Zuniga, Massimiliano Larocca, Gabriel Rhodes, as well as a touch of Chavela Vargas whose song she translated into Italian for “Chiar di Luna.”

Along with Only Luna Knows, Millanta is releasing her Italian cookbook, Dinner with Giulia – Flavors, Songs and Stories of a Florentine Troubadour.

From Florence, Italy, in 2012, Millanta relocated to Austin, Texas, where, along with performing at venues throughout the U.S. and Europe, she also combined cooking and music in house concerts with dinner.

Comprising 10 tracks, entry points on Only Luna Knows include “Fatale,” a song dripping with smoldering sensuality, at once risky and wickedly alluring, like a spider inviting listeners into her sinister web. Here, Millanta’s voice is at it’s best – burning with visceral passion.

The lush, swaying motion of “Luna, la Follia” is both beguiling and voluptuous as Millanta’s voice imbues the lyrics with dreamy desire. The Latin flow of “Chiar di Luna,” low and simmering with eroticism, reveals sumptuous layers of alluring surfaces.

“I Dance My Way,” vaguely reminiscent of the delicious hypno-noir of Terouz, ripples with shadows and luminous accents, forging a compelling tune at once inviting and dramatically vivid. Highlighted by rumbling percussion, “Luna lo Sa” trembles with sultry, smoky energy, allowing Millanta to strut her lusciously nuanced vocals.

Darkly portentous, “Love Is a Sadness Machine” exudes cautionary flavors, forewarning anyone foolish enough to fall in love with what’s to come. There’s a proximate imminence to the harmonics, indicating a stark inevitability.

“Mi Chiamava Lulu,” which translates to ‘he called me Lulu,” radiates sadness and regret, and the melancholic ache of love lost.

Only Luna Knows is Giulia Millanta’s strongest yet, revealing a singer-songwriter coming into her own irresistible voice.
