Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter INDVGO unveils her latest single, “Remember,” a lusciously retro-flavored soul-laced song mirroring the curve that love sometimes takes –initially, wonderful and open, followed by infidelity and harsh accusations, and then moving on.
INDVGO explains, “I wrote it thinking about someone I once loved, realizing I didn’t need their sorry to move on.”
Prior to singing, INDVGO was a writer: stories, then poems. The verses were then set to melodies, and what began as a creative channel assumed much more – a matrix where emotions could be healed.
Her sound blends elements of contemporary noir soul with the lushness of intimate R&B, a sound sitting somewhere between Nina Simone and Sade: velvety tones wrapped in silky, sensuous inflections and dripping passion.
Daring and imaginative, INDVGO eschews digital manipulation, choosing instead to release music that’s art, at once atmospheric and based in visceral human emotions, allowing for real human connection and the uniqueness of experiencing music rather than just hearing it.
“Remember” opens on a luminous, plucking guitar topped by the deliciously evocative and retro-flavored voice of NDVGO. An aura of glowing, oozing harmonies envelops NDVGO’s silky-smooth voice, giving it the quixotic feel of stripped-down vintage soul. Then the melody shifts, taking on vague hints of hip-hop tangs.
With “Remember,” soul/R&B singer INDVGO shares a profound, complex portrait of love and grief and their aftermath.
