Kaleigh Releases Impressive New Single “Situationship”

According to psychotherapist and author Jonathan Alpert, “A situationship is that space between a committed relationship and something that is more than a friendship.” In other words, it’s a semi-romantic relationship that is ambiguous and vague, at best.

That indeterminate state is the topic of Kaleigh’s new single, “Situationship,” released not long ago, on which Kaleigh plays all instruments, including guitar.

Talking about the song, Kaleigh shares, “Have you ever been in less than a relationship, but more than a friendship with someone? Well, me too. ‘Situationship’ is about being frustrated as you are stuck in the in-between with someone you’ve come to care about. Too often these days, people are quick to trade a good thing for a good time. Others are so damaged by their traumatic pasts that they keep themselves from truly moving forward or falling in love once again. ‘Situationship’ is a therapeutic, anger-release of all that pent-up emotion that we hold back to keep from scaring someone off. Let’s let it go together.”

She goes on, adding, “The negative effects of casual dating and the widely accepted ‘situationship’ are felt equally by the Millennial, Zillennial, and Gen Z populations. This song highlights one’s ability to reclaim their power and decide that this type of lifestyle simply isn’t the right fit. The rock genre has always been about stepping outside of societal expectations and generational norms,’ Situationship’ is about doing the unexpected in an era of instant gratification and emotional unavailability — reverting to the old-fashioned, slow-burn kind of love.”

A musician, actress, and model, at the age of 13, Kaleigh wrote and released her first EP, followed by dropping a chain of singles, and four self-produced videos. Last year, she dropped her debut album, Predestined, an album lauded by a host of music critics.

The intro to “Situationship” conjures up suggestions of Halestorm or Evanescence, as deep, rounded drums and stabbing guitars infuse the tune with hi-octane dynamics. Kaleigh’s Medusa-like vocals, simultaneously alluring and seductive, yet dripping with wickedly dangerous timbres, imbue the lyrics with savage, primordial surfaces.

Edgy and slicing, it’s one of those voices that sliver the atmosphere with biting, icy tones – a grand vocal instrument of sonic invasion.

Bristling with heavy rock leitmotifs, a pulverizing rhythm, and paralyzing, skintight guitars, “Situationship” is ferociously compelling.
