Tennessee-based Americana/country singer-songwriter Kristen Budde unveils her new single, “Regret,” a song about discarding the burden of the past and focusing on the present. Budde is readying her second album, slated for release in 2026.
“Regret” was inspired by a visit to the town where Budde entered adulthood, awakening reflections on the ‘what ifs’ of life – what if she had decided to do that instead of that?
Budde explains, “We can focus on what might have been, but it’s a dead-end road because we’ll never truly know. All we can do is let go of what’s behind us and move forward.”
She adds, “I wanted to express the idea that all we really have is this moment, right now. We can choose to live in the past and stay stuck, or we can use the present to start creating a life we want to live.”
Produced by Nicole Witt and engineered by Austin Motlow, “Regret” was recorded at Sundrop Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and mastered by Parachute Mastering. The song features the musical talents of Sol Philcox-Littlefield on guitars, Jimbo Hart on bass, Grayson Wright on piano, and Justin Holder on drums. Nicole Witt also lends her vocals on the track, adding depth to its emotional resonance. Mastered by Parachute Mastering, the single was recorded at Sundrop Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
In 2022, Budde released her debut single, “Come Sit Down at My Table,” a song about yearning to connect. The following year, she released her debut EP, Begin Again, which addressed topics of fear, letting go, and discovering the magic of living life to the fullest.
“Regret” opens on a low-slung shimmering guitar, followed by the entry of Budde’s evocative voice, vaguely reminiscent of Judy Collins, only a bit higher with hints of elegant delicacy. Drenched in savors of intimate introspection, the tune reveals profound emotions via Budde’s evocative, unforgettable voice. It’s a beautifully crafted song, at once moving and authentic.
