“Hot And Bothered,” the new single/music video from New York City artist Logan Avidan, and the title track from her upcoming album, sees the singer-songwriter leaning into a more polished pop sound than on her previous song, “Left My Heart.”
Talking about the song’s inspiration, Avidan says, “‘Hot And Bothered’ came to me on one of the hottest days in New York. I was running all around the city and melting in the subway station. I had to make something that encouraged me to own all the feelings I have, ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Turning an uncomfortable feeling into something that empowers me.”
The lyrics reflect a flirtatious awareness about her feelings for a new crush:
“Today is gonna be one of those days / Yeah I can tell / The sun is sticking to my skin / I feel like I’m in hell / My vision’s getting blurry / My mouth is tasting salt / I’m gonna be a bitch today and boy it’s all your fault.”
Avidan’s reputation as a songwriter is rapidly growing beyond NYC’s borders. On top of her natural talents she records all her music at Sisserou Studios in Dumbo, Brooklyn with her partner in crime producer and co-writer John Eatherly, who’s well known in the industry for his band Club Intl and impactful contributions to notable indie acts like San Francisco dream-poppers Cults, Caroline Polachek’s Chairlift, playing guitar for Eleanor Friedberger’s solo record, as chief songwriter for swaggering power pop foursome Public Access T.V, and as a current member of beloved garage rock outfit, Be Your Own Pet.
Opening on a delicious guitar riff topped by Avidan’s sultry vocals, imbuing the lyrics with wicked coquettish flavors, “Hot And Bothered” reveals a delicious, playful sensuality, at once enticing and encompassing hints of cattiness.
Naughty vocal harmonies infuse the tune with impish depth and dimension, accentuating the Medusa-like allure of Avidan’s smoky voice.
Logan Avidan has it going on! With “Hot And Bothered,” she delivers a low-slung, swaggering gem of an electro-pop song.
