Maria Deirisarri Releases Captivating Debut EP ‘Si Vis Pacem’

Alt-pop singer-songwriter Maria Deirisarri unveils her debut EP, Si Vis Pacem, a collection of songs exploring the search for peace through vengeance, spirituality, romance, forgiveness, and solitude through flavors of alt-folk, cinematic folk, pop, and bossa nova.

Deirisarri shares, “Every lyric was a challenge to myself to be as honest and direct as I could. After around a year and a half, I’m pleased that ‘Si Vis Pacem’ is finally being released. I’m very proud of every song on the EP, the theme of peace that I wanted the EP to chase, and the cover art as well. It turned out so badass.”

The title of the EP borrows from the Latin adage – si vis pacem, para bellum – which translates to ‘if you want peace, prepare for war.’ Co-produced by Corey Kilgannon and Jacob Hudson, the EP was recorded at Beaches Vineyard and Pine Studios in Jacksonville, Florida.

Encompassing five tracks, entry points include opener “Parabellum,” featuring Kilgannon. A rippling alt-folk melody supports Deirisarri’s deliciously delicate yet intoxicating voice, while Kilgannon’s smooth, whispery tenor adds buttery timbres.

Written just the night before, “Parabellum” was recorded live in a single take. Inspired by the John Wick films, the song depicts attaining peace via retribution.

A personal favorite because of its bossa nova tangs, “bluejay” offers a wonderfully swaying motion as Deirisarri’s lush, charming voice imbues the lyrics with quixotic, nostalgic emotions.

On “And I’ll Fly,” softly gleaming guitars and an elegant piano combine to produce a sonic aura of enveloping colors. Deirisarri’s voice takes on low-slung, darker coloration, conveying gliding textures reminiscent of natural landscapes.

Another favorite because of its chiming intro and subsequent numinous ambiance, “Prayer” sees Deirisarri singing in an autogenous language. Gentle harmonics infuse the melody with a mystical, floating quality, as if ascending on the wings of angels to the Empyrean.

A radiant, surprisingly haunting EP, Si Vis Pacem basks in intricate melodic brilliance and the charismatic voice of Maria Deirisarri.
