Music Premiere: Emily James shares words of encouragement in new single “That’d Be Alright”

We are pleased to premiere a new single. “That’d Be Alright,” from rising Los Angeles singer-songwriter Emily James. The single is the second release from her forthcoming EP Wanted You to Know, part i.

James shares that the inspiration for “That’d Be Alright” was the current state of world events. She had to share her message of encouragement and hope the best way she knows how. She is only 21 and has written or co-written everything on the project; she self-produced a few tracks as well.

Her music is really fresh and lovely with Jack Johnson’s acoustic sincerity plus a heaping dose of Carly Rae Jepson’s catchy pop vibes. This new song is lush with sweet harmonies, beautiful guitalele picking with subtle but heartfelt indelible melodies.

The first single from the upcoming EP, “back in the summer.”  was released in October. James directed the accompanying music video.

Drawing influences from Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, and Adele, James began writing songs at ten. She moved from New York to Nashville when she was sixteen and ultimately landed in Los Angeles in 2017. She has released an eponymous EP (2016), followed by her debut album, Til the Morning (2018), and EP Dreaming (2019).

James has been busy this year releasing new singles, “bartender” and “what do I.”
