Toronto-based alt-rock artist Jules introduces the music video for her latest single, “Judy,” who grapples with being overlooked because of her uniqueness.
Jules shares, “Judy’s character is a representation of anyone who has ever felt ignored or misunderstood. Through the chaos, we wanted to convey the strength that comes from embracing your true self, even if it means disrupting the status quo. Judy’s transformation from being overlooked to proudly embracing her uniqueness is a powerful narrative we hope resonates with many.”
“Judy” follows on the heels of Jules’ previous alt-rock banger, “Music Man,” which caught the attention of the music industry because of its visceral, potent energy.
Jules first made waves with the release of her SOCAN and Top 40 chart-topping hit, “Before You Picked Her,” followed by her debut album, People Watching, featuring “Fool’s Gold” and the aforementioned “Before You Picked Her.” The 2020 DH Remix of “Sirens” produced a Top 40 single.
Jules has worked with some of Canada’s finest, including producer Brian Moncarz (The Tea Party, Our Lady Peace), Dunkin Coutts (Our Lady Peace), Jason Pierce, (Our Lady Peace, Treble Charger), and Ben Healy.
Early on in her career, Jules won a scholarship to attend the Berklee School of Music summer program, which amplified her love for the art of creating music. FYI Music News declared that Jules “has poise, a storyline that’s Shakespearian,” while Canadian Beats dubbed her as “an artist to watch.”
“Judy” opens on a fat, thrumming bassline topped by Jules’ low, simmering vocals. A thumping kick drum enters, followed by a brief bridge leading to the harmonics ramping up as Jules’ voice elevates to dynamic levels, imbuing the lyrics with surging, vibrant tones. There’s a relentless push to the melody, highlighted by raw, contagious oomph.
“Judy doesn’t know how to get shit together / She gets too high with the kids in the bathroom / Judy doesn’t know how to get shit together / In her own world that she calls reality.”
Brought to life by urgent momentum and the delicious, intoxicating vocal range of Jules, “Judy” is an absolute monster of a track.
