Americana/folk rock singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie releases her new music video, “Caterpillar,” a track from her upcoming album, mother earth, slated to drop on February 20 via Wolfe Island Records, North America, and May 15, 2026, via Continental Record Services (CRS) Europe.
Talking about “Caterpillar,” Jarvie says, “The film is saturated with the divine feminine, but more simply, I was transfixed by five straight minutes of observing genesis, creation, life, twitching, dancing, contained, then bursting out. I think we should pay attention. At one point, the embryo looks human. Caterpillar is a lullaby lament I wrote for my boy, how I tried to save him…because I made him inside me, but he’s not mine to save. He has to save himself. Despite this, we blame ourselves. The video celebrates this tiny thing, a newt, simultaneously one little life and all life. Small is an illusion. When you watch that process, the divine itself is at work.”
As the rollout of mother’s day continues, Jarvie presents a beautifully contemplative piece reflecting on the delicate and sacred nature of life through the “Caterpillar” music video. The visuals draw from Jan van Ijken’s film Becoming, showcasing breathtaking imagery from the Dutch nature and science creator, artfully re‑edited by Antonia LaMantia to align seamlessly with the music.
Produced by Hugh Christopher Brown and Jason Mercer, the forthcoming album features a Who’s Who of musicians, with Jarvie on vocals, guitar, and piano.

Jarvie’s music transforms deep personal grief into vivid, genre-spanning narratives. She began writing songs unexpectedly after her son’s near‑fatal accident, which inspired her 2014 debut, Spiral Road. Despite having no previous songwriting experience, the album emerged as a powerful artistic response and received international praise for its emotional resonance and lyrical beauty, drawing comparisons to artists like Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams. Spiral Road also earned a nomination for Best Concept Album at the Independent Music Awards.
In 2019, Jarvie released her second album, In the Clear, a profound exploration of motherhood, spiritual resilience, trauma, and healing.
“Caterpillar” opens on a soft, delicate piano, followed by rolling gently into a light, rumbling rhythm topped by Jarvie’s beautifully evocative vocals. There’s a wistful quality to Jarvie’s tones, imbuing the lyrics with tenderness, hints of deep compassion, and lingering dreamy warmth. Vaguely reminiscent of a lullaby blended with dollops of a Harry Chapin melody, “Caterpillar” reveals complex emotions arising from the center of the soul.
With “Caterpillar,” Suzanne Jarvie communes with life, offering an immersive song that alters your perception of significance.
