Pop singer-songwriter and actress Tara Macri introduces two music videos, “Christmas For Two” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
The pair of holiday videos follow on the heels of Tara’s recent single/music video, “Waking Up In California,” which has collected more than 160,000 streams on Spotify, along with over 12 million streams on TikTok.
Tara made a grand arrival on the music scene in 2015, with the release of her single, “Prettiest Girl in the Room,” which broke Billboard’s Top 80 chart. Since then, she’s released hits like “Excuses,” “Baby You Got Me,” and the above-mentioned “Waking Up In California.”
Multi-talented, Tara has landed pivotal roles on Broadway, including Hairspray, Jersey Boys, and The First Wives Club. Outside of the theater, Tara is the voice of Young Tigress in the Kung Fu Panda prequel, Secrets of the Scroll, featuring Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Seth Rogen, and Lucy Liu. Most recently Tara appeared in Patrick Liscomb’s film, Outcry.
“Christmas For Two,” Tara’s bouncy, original song features Tara and her band performing the pop-flavored confection live. While the more formal setting of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” imbues the famous song with warm, creamy flavors, highlighted by Tara’s gorgeously evocative voice.
Guitar Girl Magazine spoke with Tara Macri to discover what Christmas means to her, what she’s looking forward to in 2023, and what kind of guitar she plays.
What does the holiday season mean to you?
I would love for the holidays to be a time where I can slow down but I find when I come home for a visit it’s kind of go-go-go to make sure I get to see everyone. I love coming back home and spending time with my family. Baking cookies with my mom, decorating the tree and going on long walks with the dog. Eating way too much food!
Why did you decide to cover “Christmas For Two” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?”
‘Christmas For Two’ is my original Christmas song and I love performing it around Christmas time. ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ is one of my favorite Christmas songs! I was figuring it out on the piano one day and thought it might be cool to play it in rehearsal and see if my band likes the version. Everyone added something special to it.
Tell us about your plans for 2023.
So far for 2023, I have a pilot in development. There is also a feature film I am interested in, but it is in its early days. I also have a new song that I am working on now and hope to release in the spring.
What kind of guitar do you play?
I play a Seagull Maritime SWS by Godin Guitars. My first guitar was a Simon & Patrick by the same company. I soon got to meet Simon who the guitar was named after. They have sent me a few guitars over the years, and they are handcrafted. I just love the sound.
Tell us your favorite memory with a guitar.
I was so excited when I received my new guitar in the mail from Godin Guitars! Then I got to play it with my band at the Godin guitar showcase room at NAMM.
What’s your definition of tone? And has your tone changed over time or remained the same?
My tone is light, bright, positive, and a little dreamy these days. I am currently trying out new sounds for my new song coming out in 2023! Might play around with some darker tones.
