Singer-songwriter VINVAE unveils her new album When My Life Began, following on the heels of last year’s long player, The V Echoes.
Talking about the album, VINVAE says, “‘When My Life Began’ embodies my journey of self-discovery and resilience, inviting listeners to join me on a deeply personal and transformative musical experience. Through its tracks, I explore themes of love, empowerment, and the beauty of life’s moments, reminding us all of the power of music to inspire, heal, and connect us.”
VINVAE arrived on the music scene in 2016 with the release of “Always Right,” followed by “HOT.” Difficult to pigeonhole because her sound is so fearlessly diverse, exploring a variety of musical styles, VINVAE’s rich, sumptuous vocals set her music apart.
Outside of her music career, VINVAE also founded an affordable luxury silk scarf brand called VINVAE VINVAE, where she blends her love for fashion with her passion for artistry.
Encompassing 10 tracks, plus a bonus track, When My Life Began begins with the upbeat, Latin-flavored “Trouble,” a song that rolls and undulates on a delicious syncopated rhythm topped by VINVAE’s velvety, seductive voice, imbuing the lyrics with bewitching timbres.
Highlights include “Soft,” blending Afro-beats and R&B elements into a melody that’s simultaneously delicate and potently alluring. VINVAE’s nuanced voice ranges from lusciously breathy to darker, affecting tones.
“Birds” rides a Latin-jazz-laced rhythm with hints of bossa nova running through it topped by VINVAE’s wonderfully mobile vocals, giving the lyrics an airy freedom. The title track, a personal favorite because of its low-slung yet powerful rhythmic flow that infuses the tune with a seductive swaying motion, showcases VINVAE’s evocative voice, dripping with subtle sonic flourishes. On the outro, a gliding saxophone injects the tune with an elusive sensation of simmering sensuality.
“Funny Life,” the bonus track, rides a vibrant samba and jazz rhythm that lures listeners in with its lively feel.
