Co-written by GRAMMY-nominated songwriter Sal Oliveri (Chris Stapleton, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney) and Becca Bowen, “Mama’s Prayer” is told through the lens of a mother’s love and unwavering belief in her child. The heartfelt track draws deeply from Becca’s own life and her mother’s steadfast support, making it both intimate and universally relatable. With the emotional richness of ’90s country icons like Faith Hill and Martina McBride, “Mama’s Prayer” also mirrors Becca’s personal journey in Nashville — one built on resilience, faith, and the kind of determination her mother instilled in her from the very beginning.
A South Carolina native, Bowen first captured attention with her 2022 album Like You’ve Never Been Loved, which featured collaborations with Lee Brice and Rachel Bradshaw. The record paved the way for her 2024 EP County Line, home to standout tracks like “If I’m Being Honest” and “Son of a Gun,” praised by People Country, CMT, Perez Hilton, and Whiskey Riff. Known for her powerful voice and dynamic live performances, Becca has headlined shows across the country, opened for Colt Ford, performed at Whiskey Jam, and taken the stage in the acclaimed live productions Shiners and Theophany — the latter of which she’ll soon star in and co-produce at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center this fall.
I have a very faith-based background…
“Mama’s Prayer” is such a heartfelt song — can you share the story behind it and what made you want to write it?
I had been wanting to co-write with my Producer, Sal Oliveri, for a while on some truly authentic, heartfelt songs — the kind that would tell pieces of my life and growing up in the South. I have a very faith-based background, and so does Sal. I started singing gospel at my hometown church when I was 5 years old. I wanted to take it back to my roots with a country inspirational song.
The inspiration for the song came from the biblical story of the Prodigal Son, and also captures my life with my praying Mama. It reflects God’s love and forgiveness through the lyrics. I grew up with a mom that never gave up on me, even when I lost my way. I always knew that no matter what, she would be surrounding me in prayer. I truly don’t know where I would be without her prayers.
You co-wrote this song with GRAMMY-nominated songwriter Sal Oliveri. What was the collaboration process like, and how did the song evolve from idea to finished track?
“Mama’s Prayer” was written fairly quickly. It was close to both of our hearts. I knew right away that I needed to get in the studio and record it. I felt that it was a song people needed to hear. This was probably one of the fastest processes I have ever done — going from co-writing to the studio, and having a finished song.
Where did you record “Mama’s Prayer,” and what drew you to that particular studio or team?
We recorded “Mama’s Prayer” in Franklin, TN, at a beautiful home studio that we have used before in the past. I wanted my vocals to feel authentic and raw, and that was the perfect place. Sal Oliveri produced my track, and I think he was able to truly capture what I had envisioned.

You’ve said the song is inspired by your own mother’s support. Was there a specific moment in your life that really brought this message home for you?
I could name several instances where my mom would be praying for me. My life has definitely not been without trials. I’ve had to lean on my faith to get me through many times.
When I left my hometown to pursue my dreams in Nashville, I felt lost. As the lyrics in “Mama’s Prayer” read, “I chased the world until I couldn’t run,” that’s the truth. I was in a really dark place, asking God a lot of questions. I knew my mom would be back in South Carolina, lifting me up in prayer. Those prayers were heard and answered, and I found the peace that I was searching for. It wasn’t in fame or worldly things but in my foundation of faith.
The song carries the emotional depth of ’90s country classics. Were Faith Hill and Martina McBride influences for you when shaping your sound here?
They are on the list as some of my favorite female artists. Those women sang from a place of emotion and real-life issues. I think my song just echoes those influences. It was a blessing to hear that my song was compared to those incredible women.
Sonically, what do you hope listeners feel when they hear “Mama’s Prayer” for the first time?
I hope it brings a sense of peace to them as it has to me. Just knowing that we are not alone in this world gives me clarity. I hope the steel guitar and the production bring a warmth to my listeners.
How has your mother’s encouragement shaped your journey in Nashville and your career overall?
My mom has always been there for me while chasing these crazy dreams of mine. She believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself sometimes. I think she has helped me tremendously when facing the demanding side of the music industry. She keeps me grounded.
What’s one lesson or piece of advice from your mom that you carry with you every day in music and in life?
She has always told me to put God first, and everything else will fall into place. I do live by that advice.
You’ve worked with amazing co-writers. How do you decide who to collaborate with, and what qualities do you look for in a songwriting partner?
I have to have what I call songwriting chemistry. I want to feel at home with the people I write with. Writing needs to be a safe place for me, so I look for those who communicate well and are open-minded about my song ideas.
Your 2022 album Like You’ve Never Been Loved and your 2024 EP County Line both gained great attention. How does “Mama’s Prayer” build on the themes you’ve been exploring in your music?
I feel like I have found my sound now as an artist. County Line was the beginning of releasing songs that I had co-written. The title track, “County Line,” from that EP reflected my dad and his advice and encouragement growing up.
Since releasing those projects, I am now being even more vulnerable in my artistry and writing more authentically. I believe I have grown as an artist over the years.
It is one of my favorite songs to do in my shows.
What can fans expect from your live shows this year — will “Mama’s Prayer” have a special place in the setlist?
It is one of my favorite songs to do in my shows. I am a high-energy performer, so in the middle of a set, I will bring it down and be a little more unplugged with songs like “County Line” and “Mama’s Prayer.” It’s a time I can truly connect with my audience and tell the stories behind the songs.
What do you hope this single will mean to your fans, especially those who might see their own stories reflected in it?
I want “Mama’s Prayer” to bring my fans the feeling of love and compassion. I know we all have that one person who won’t give up on us. I want this song to remind them of that praying mom, dad, brother, sister, or even friend. I want them to know someone so much bigger is in this world watching over us.
In addition to music, you’re also taking on acting and producing with Theophany at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. How do you balance these different creative outlets?
It’s not easy balancing it all. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed, but I just think about how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love for a living. I always mentally take some time for myself. Whether that is going to the gym or going on a walk outdoors, it helps me not get burnt out.
After this release, what’s next for you musically — are you already working on the next EP or album?
I have been writing a lot and making plans for 2026. A lot of amazing things are in the works.
