Gabrielle Metz on new single “Mixtape”

My name is Gabrielle Metz, and I grew up in a small town in Alabama, in a house that listened to and loved all types of music! That is the entire basis for my new song, “Mixtape.” I started writing songs around 12-13 years old! As a result, I wanted to learn guitar, so I could play the songs I wrote. I worked all summer doing odd jobs, I saved my money, and bought a guitar along with a Guitar for Dummies book. I started teaching myself, and soon my mom got me into guitar lessons! Since then, I taught myself piano, bass, and a few other instruments! I moved to Nashville at 17 and have been working in the music industry since then.

“Music has a beautiful way of uniting people from all walks of life through shared experiences. That feeling is what made me want to be an artist. My hope is that my music brings people together.” – Gabrielle Metz

Tell us about the inspiration behind your new music.

I grew up in a family that listened to all types of music.

What was the songwriting and recording process?

This song happened so naturally. I got in the room with Randy and Corey, and we wrote this within an hour. It just fell out! As for the recording process, I worked with Justin Bandolon, and the same thing was true. It came together so naturally!

What do you hope your fans/listeners take away with them when they listen to your music?

This song is a little different than anything I’ve released in the past. It is really just about loving music and how music can carry you through anything!

When did you first pick up the guitar, and what drew you to that instrument?

My journey with playing instruments is kind of funny. My parents put me in piano lessons at around five years old. I was a very hyperactive kid who always wanted to be moving.. Needless to say, I had no interest in sitting to learn. I started writing songs around 13 years old and soon wanted to start learning to play along with my songs. I saved up my money and bought a guitar! It was my first instrument to fully learn, but I soon started teaching myself piano, bass, and other instruments.

Speaking of instruments, what brand(s) do you play and why?

It depends on the purpose! My “everyday” guitar is my Martin acoustic guitar from the custom shop. I also have a 3’ hollowbody D’Angelico guitar. It is a BEAUTIFUL jazz guitar. I met the D’Angelico team at NAMM in 2018. We partnered up, and the guitar that I have is actually a prototype. It is so smooth, and I love practicing on this guitar I play it during full band shows! I also have several Fender guitars and a Fender bass that I love to use when I’m creating!

Who are some of your musical influences?

Well, like the song showcases, I listened to everything growing up, and I think that really blends into my music. In addition to the artists in the song: Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Keith Urban, and too many others to count!

Will you be touring in support of your new music?

My team and I are working on booking and touring for the fall and spring!!
