Interview: Myra Washington Brings the Heat with Country Debut “Trouble”

Myra Washington has taken her musical career in an exciting new direction with her latest release, “Trouble,” marking her first foray into country music. In an exclusive interview with Guitar Girl Magazine, Washington discusses her Texas roots, musical influences, and what led her to delve into country music.

Guitar Girl Magazine: This is your first country music release. Tell us why you wanted to delve into this genre of music.

Myra Washington: Country music has always been a part of my musical palette. I was born in Texas, so classic country music has always been around me. I love the storytelling aspect, and when the Harmony Hill Entertainment Team (Tennessee) reached out to invite me to be part of this project, I jumped at the chance. I was invited into this space by Mike Corrado and Jon Lassiter, and it feels good to explore this side of my artistry.

GGM: What was your favorite part of recording this single?

Myra: I loved building the background vocals on this song. My producers (Mike & Jon) call them “the girls,” because I sang all the parts with different personalities. I had a lot of fun creating those vocal layers and giving each one a unique feel.

GGM: We know you’ve had recent success working with Bootsy Collins. Will you continue to release country music, or do you consider yourself an artist who crosses genres?

Myra: I’m a DJ, so I’ve always been influenced by a wide variety of genres, and I love them all. As long as the music feels good, I’ll keep making it. Right now, country music feels good to me, so I’m excited to see where this journey leads.

GGM: Who are some of your female influences from the country music genre?

Myra: Without a doubt, Dolly Parton is one of my biggest influences. I also admire Shania Twain, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash. I grew up in a southern household that celebrated music, so worship and classic country have always been the backbone of my musical influences.

GGM: You have a successful Tina Turner Tribute Band. How long have you been performing with this band as the lead vocalist?

Myra: I’ve always performed Tina songs in my shows, but I put together the Tina TurnUP Xperience as an homage to her after she passed away last year. It’s been an incredible way to honor her legacy.

GGM: Who is your favorite guitarist?

Myra: I recently discovered that Chet Atkins was the guitarist behind so many recordings I love. I’m also a huge Prince fan—he could play any genre effortlessly.

GGM: How can our readers learn more about you? Please include your website, social media, and YouTube channel.
