We had the chance to interview powerhouse vocalist and Nashville singer-songwriter Dusty Leigh Huston. She most released her single “The Hell I Won’t,” and you can listen to it here.
Who are your biggest influences as an Artist?
- Growing up I loved everything The Judds ever created and put out. I had all their records and sang along to every song. I was also heavily influenced by Reba McEntire and how captivating she was and how well she could tell a story through her music. I also loved Tina Turner and how high-energy her live shows were! She was one helluva performer and knew how to keep a crowd entertained! Currently, I love the down-to-earth, genuine vibe that Ashley McBryde and Lainey Wilson bring to country music. They’re not afraid to think outside the box and push back. They like to do things differently and don’t mind bucking the system and I appreciate that.
What does your new single “The Hell I Won’t” mean to you? Tell us the backstory behind it.
- “The Hell I Won’t” is my anthem – it’s taking every moment, every ounce of doubt and every time someone told me I’d never do it, or I wouldn’t make it very far, and proving them wrong. I wrote this song in Nashville with Craig Wilson and Mary Cutter and basically shared me entire life story with them; the good, the bad and the ugly, and how all those instances changed me and shaped me into who I am now. It was a song that I had written bits and pieces to for quite a few years but never could reach the full potential of what this song could be and what it means so me.
What do you want listeners to take away from your music?
- I hope anyone that listens to my music and feel the emotions that go into creating it. I want them to feel happy, or sad or driven to follow their dreams and be able to connect my music with their own story and somehow give them what they need from it.
What is your favorite hobby besides making music?
- I love to hike and fish. I run a lot and enjoy camping and being outdoors. I also love to travel!
We love the new single – but what can we expect next from Dusty Leigh Huston?
- Lots of live shows on the books, as well as wrapping up my album “The Hell I Won’t” due out this fall! I have one more single release coming out in the summer before my full album drops, too!
