Guitar Girl Magazine Issue 20 – Summer 2022

It’s Summer, and it’s a hot one! And speaking of hot, we’re bringing on the heat in this issue with our cover artists, Tiffany Lloyd and Tenille Arts! Tiffany was recently featured in Global Woman Magazine as one of the Top 10 Female Entrepreneurs Guiding Us Into A Better 2022” and attended the 64th GRAMMYs, where she had the pleasure of being the bassist for the 20th Annual GRAMMYs on the Hill Awards. Tenille was the opening act for the 2022 She Rocks Award show in Anaheim, CA, held in June during the NAMM show, and she recently appeared on the Summer Concert Series for Fox and Friends.

Along with our two featured artists, we hear from Lzzy Hale on her new album and Explorerbird guitar, as well as from Barbara Wight, the CFO of Taylor Guitars, and Cindy Hulej, luthier of Cindy Guitars in NYC. There are so many artists to cover in the pages of this action-packed issue; read on and enjoy!

Now that the kids are out of school, it’s a great time to think about summer rock camps or guitar lessons. Or maybe start planning a trip to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp in Los Angeles. In May, the camp offered its first “Women’s Only” event, where campers had the opportunity to meet Melissa Etheridge, Nancy Wilson, Kathy Valentine, and Orianthi.

Another great female-focused event featured in this edition is the She Rocks Awards held during the NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. A big shout out to Laura B. Whitmore of Women’s International Music Network for creating this wonderful and important event honoring the women who have contributed to and continue to make a difference in this industry. In this issue, we discuss how female-focused events like these help further gender diversity in the music industry.

PRS Guitars takes us behind the scenes to showcase the women who aid in the construction, marketing, and distribution of their gear. They fill us in on what they love most about their jobs and their favorite PRS guitar.

With the release of so many new guitars, gear and accessories over the last several months and especially during NAMM held in June in Anaheim, CA, there’s so much for us to take in. Still, we are covering some “sizzling” guitars for summer fun in our “Sizzling Summer Guitar Round-up” by Caroline Paone — think cool bursts, hot flame tops and eye-popping colors.

Gibson announced a Lzzy Hale Explorerbird! You might ask, “What is that?” Well, think a “stylish mash-up with an Explorer body, neck, and a Firebird headstock,” according to Gibson. Martin unveiled its 2.5 millionth guitar adorned with precious gems that celebrate the night C.F. Martin Sr. arrived in America in 1833.

Along with our lessons, tips, gear reviews, and fun stuff, we’re having a contest with Luna Guitars where entrants can win a chance to take home one of three guitars — the Henna Paradise A/E Select Spruce, the Henna Oasis A/E Select Spruce, and the Henna Dragon A/E Spruce — so be sure to check inside for details.

As always, thank you for all your support throughout these years! We couldn’t have done it without you!!

Enjoy your summer!
