Guitar Girl Magazine Special Edition – 2022 – “I Belong”

I am excited to share our 2022 “I Belong: Celebrating Female and Non-Binary Artists of Color.” Guitar Girl Magazine partnered with Guitar Gabby & The TxLips Band to curate this edition dedicated to highlighting artists of color making changes in the music industry.

Guitar Gabby & The TxLips Band is an international entity that triples as a self-management agency, a consulting firm, and a touring collective. The mission is to challenge the equality of powers in every industry. We believe representation is important, so we partner with entities such as Guitar Girl Magazine to bring light to the many female-identifying and non-binary artists pushing for change in the music industry.

Historically, female-identifying artists of color have been left out of the conversation and have been excluded from having a “seat at the table.” Within recent years, the notion of BIPOC artists existing in non-inclusive spaces has shifted, and now, companies such as our issue partners Martin, PRS, Luna, and more are taking a genuine step in addressing the industry gap of diversity and inclusion.

Guitar Girl Magazine was started with the intention to empower women and female-identifying musicians to pursue their calling and dreams. This issue is packed with a diverse roster of artists pushing the envelope, from Buffy Sainte-Marie in our Artist Spotlight section to Layla Staats, Kat Dyson, and Jimena Fosado. We dig into the stories of game changers like Cheryl Cooley and Rhonda Smith.

Our two front cover artists, Joy Clark and Yasmin Williams, are phenomenal women that have made strides for change in Americana and Folk music. Aliah Guerra and Jennale Adams grace our back covers and are contributing writers for this edition.

We are moving into a new era of GGM and need the continued support of readers like you. We are appreciative of your support and look forward to seeing you in our next edition.
