INTERLOCHEN—Interlochen Arts Academy Singer-Songwriter Instructor Courtney
Kaiser-Sandler and a group of Arts Academy singer-songwriters have been invited to present at the SXSW EDU Conference & Festival.
Kaiser-Sandler’s presentation, “Taking the Inside Out,” will open with approximately 50 minutes of performances by singer-songwriter students Andy Min, Logan Macaulay and Sofia Valdes-Herrera, who will be accompanied by Academy House Band members Jade Hall and Quinn Lesjack-Randall. After the performances, Kaiser-Sandler will speak on how she built the singer-songwriter program at Interlochen and the educational benefit of off-campus, real-world performance opportunities. The session will conclude with a question-and-answer session.
“One of the greatest ways for our students to learn is to get off-campus into different
communities and perform,” Kaiser-Sandler said. “It’s also a great way for us, as instructors, to see what they’ve done and assessed what they’ve learned.”
Arts Academy singer-songwriter students have regular opportunities to perform both on and off campus. Over the past several years, singer-songwriter students have toured in Southern California, Nashville, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Boston, and Brooklyn. Last April, Arts Academy singer-songwriters opened for Bon Jovi in Pittsburgh. The singer-songwriters will tour again this March, with tour destinations including Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, and Nashville.
The presentation will be held on March 5 at 11 a.m. in room 16AB of the Austin Convention
Center.
