PRS Guitars Updates Tuning Machine Button Design and More for 2024

(STEVENSVILLE, MD) January 16, 2024 – PRS Guitars has today introduced updated tuning machine buttons for many of their Core Series guitars. These new buttons bring to life Paul Reed Smith’s original vision from around 1980, years before the company itself existed.

While these new tuners are an aesthetic update, the primary reason for the change is tonal. Paul Reed Smith has been known to say that anything that touches the string is God, which means tuning machines play a large part in a guitar’s tone. The new Wing buttons found on many new 2024 PRS Core Series guitars (and the PRS NF 53 and Private Stock John McLaughlin before them) are designed to be lightweight, thereby subtracting less energy from the vibrating strings and helping the guitar ring longer and at a more musical note

“By having less weight on the headstock, the guitar is allowed to ring at a musical note – it opens up the vowel sound of the guitar,” said Paul Reed Smith.

For more details, including model/tuner pairings and a video message from Paul Reed Smith, visit the PRS’s Inside PRS Blog here.

PRS Guitars has also introduced a few additional updates to their Core and Bolt-On Series, including new pickup and color offerings. The (original) McCarty model now comes with McCarty LT pickups (updated from 58/15 LT pickups). Players can hear those in the new demo video here. Likewise, the Custom 24-08 model’s pickups have been updated to TCI pickups as previously seen on Paul’s Guitar. This shift for the Custom 24-08 is a unique departure from the Custom’s more modern humbuckers. Color-wise, Carroll Blue is new for 2024 and the PRS Silver Sky has two colors: Faded Black Tee (Satin) and Venetian Blue.
