Today, Ontario-based Country artist Karli June releases the official music video for her empowering single Makes You Pretty. The single was released to the DSP’s last week and came out of the gate strong with 8 key editorial playlists including Apple Music New Music Daily, Apple Music New in Country, Spotify New Music Friday Canada, Spotify New Music Nashville, Spotify All About Country, Spotify Live Country, Amazon Music Breakthrough Country, and Amazon Music Brand New Music.
Filmed in Toronto and directed by Tim Deegan (Eric Ethridge, Leah Daniels, Shae Dupuy), the video is a touching ode to women who are struggling to see beauty in the parts of themselves that they’ve been told are flaws.
“‘Makes You Pretty’ is a boot-stomping anthem about celebrating where a woman’s true beauty comes from. We wrote it about the feeling so many women feel – that they’re not pretty. It celebrates the laugh lines, the strength you have to make through tough times, and the kindness of your heart. I hope it leaves every woman feeling beautiful and strong,” says Karli.
The empowering track was co-written by Karli and hit songwriters Karen Kosowski (Meghan Patrick, The Washboard Union, Tim Hicks, Mickey Guyton) and Tori Tullier (Emma White, Tim Hicks). Kosowski also produced the song. “Makes You Pretty” is the first release of 2022 for the up and coming singer-songwriter.
2021 was a year of growth for Karli despite the pandemic limitations on touring. Karli was chosen as a participant in the prestigious TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship powered by SOCAN Foundation, being one of three finalists selected to represent Ontario in the 2021 nationwide Jim Beam Talent Search and opening for award-winning Country music group The Washboard Union at the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.
Born in Listowel, ON, Karli fell in love with music as a child, singing in her church’s choir, at local fairs and singing competitions. During her teens she began writing songs in earnest, studied piano, taught herself guitar, and took every opportunity to perform live during school concerts, in musical theatre productions, and at the local pub.
Her debut EP will be released on February 18, 2022 via The Orchard, and she joins award winning Country artist Tebey on the Waterloo, ON date of his Canadian tour in March.
