Sharing her journey behind the project, Dalia reflects, “I started the year feeling really disconnected from myself and from the people I love. There were a lot of old feelings, habits, and situations that came back up, and I didn’t know how to deal with them. What I didn’t know at the time was that the antidepressants I’d been taking for years had stopped working. So all my emotions were suddenly extremely amplified. I’ve always been someone who feels things deeply, but for the past few years, the medication had suppressed that intensity. When it all came rushing back, it felt really scary for me—like I was 16 again, and unable to think rationally. For months, I thought I was losing my mind, which is how the title Girl’s Insane came to be—it captured exactly how I felt during that time.”
Track list:
1. everything’s different
2. bellyfish
3. pretty girl
4. volatile
5. girl’s insane
The title track, ‘girl’s insane’, serves as the emotional centerpiece of the EP. Written about a terrible heartbreak that still lingers years later. Dalia reflects, “This song came from a place of trying to understand why this experience shaped me so much and why I keep coming back to it years later. I wrote it after a therapy session where I spoke about my first heartbreak and realized how much it still affects me. Now I just think it’s one of things you never really get over, you just learn to live with it.”
Beyond the title track, ‘girl’s insane’ is a celebration of emotional extremes – even when it’s messy. Dalia shares, “Feeling deeply and in extremes is something I’ve now come to love about who I am but there’s definitely been times I’ve resented myself and felt shame for it. The downside is how volatile and dysregulated you can feel at times but there’s also so much passion and love and life that comes with being that way. This EP is for everyone with big feelings, big hearts, and slightly unhinged brains. I love us!”
Through ‘girl’s insane’, Dalia continues to prove her knack for transforming personal struggles into music that resonates universally. With its mix of melancholy, passion, and unfiltered honesty, the EP invites listeners to embrace the messiness of love and growth.
