Today, Anna of the North releases a homemade lyric video for “Dream Girl.” Anna is all of us as she prances around in her bedroom, trying on clothes as she gets dressed to go… nowhere. The Norwegian artist’s bedroom pop is more relevant now than ever for dreaming up your own reality and dancing alone in your bedroom.
The video comes in the midst of Anna finding “Dream Girl” synced to a Global Apple iPad Pro commercial last month. In less than a week Anna was charting on iTunes in over 30+ Countries, Daily Spotify Streams doubled and overall streaming increased 187%. Anna’s debut album, Lovers, word-of-mouth success culminated in the title track taking off via a surprise sync in Netflix’s seminal smash hit ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’, though it’s a story that keeps evolving: ‘Lovers’ is still streaming over 100K times per day, nearly a year after the film’s release, and made the top 100 charts in 171 countries. But that’s not the end, a mere week after hearing “Dream Girl” take flight, quite literally as a bird in Apple’s iPad Pro sync, Anna was startled to hear yet another track, “Playing Games,” as she finished the first episode of the new Netflix Series ‘Never Have I Ever.’ That track has been Shazamed over 29,000 times since the Netflix release.
Anna of the North, who strikes an emotional chord regardless of continent, collaborator, or genre has taken on an unexpected life of her own as her music finds success in syncs. Few modern artists, too, could appear as at home working with Tyler, the Creator (Anna lent her vocals to two tracks on ‘Flower Boy’ alongside Steve Lacy, Frank Ocean, and Rex Orange County) and Rejjie Snow as they are duetting with HONNE or playing with Anderson Paak. All of which has led Anna to where she finds herself in now; a pop star and a fearless young woman who has perhaps always been hiding in plain sight.
