“‘Never Be Ourselves’ is equal parts British folk-pop and dreamy Southern singer-songwriter that progresses from gentle acoustic guitar through a dramatic rock-forward conclusion.” – ROLLING STONE

Emerging singer-songwriter Savannah Conley today debuted the official music video for “Never Be Ourselves” [watch here], out now via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records. The track comes off Conley’s debut EP Twenty-Twenty, produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, Anderson East); her first release in partnership with his Low Country Sound imprint on Elektra Records.

Rolling Stone heralded the EP as “a brief but emotionally rich collection of tracks full of moody orchestration and whip-smart lines,” applauding her“sharp lyricism and potent vocals” and naming Conley to their “Artists You Need to Know” in March of this year.

The official visual for “Never Be Ourselves” underscores the song’s message – of people striving in vain to chase an image they’ll never be able to fully attain, losing themselves in the process. Of her personal inspiration behind the video, Conley says: “Sometimes I feel surrounded by myself. My own thoughts, who I think I should be, who I want to be. It’s inescapable. Here, we’ve made that struggle a reality.”

Today, Conley also officially announced her participation in NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Talks” with NPR Music’s Ann Powers and Cobb, set for October 10th at The Nashville Palace. The conversation (one of four in the inaugural “Tiny Desk Talks” series, fueled by Lagunitas Brewing Company), will highlight Savannah’s entry into the music mainstream and Cobb’s role as her producer. Titled “Finding Your Sound: How Emerging Artists Enter The Mainstream,” the event is presented in collaboration with NPR Music, WMOT, and WPLN. Tickets and additional information for the event are available here.

Conley was born and raised just outside Nashville. Influenced by musical parents – her father was a guitarist and her mother a background singer – she has been performing since the age of seven. Now 21, she toured this spring with fellow LCS artist Brent Cobb and opened for Vance Joy in Prospect Park, as well as providing support for The Head and the Heart on select dates. This past month, Conley also joined CarlileMaggie Rogers, and many more for a special Nashville show – ‘Brandi Carlile and Friends.’ She also played the festival circuit this summer, with performances at Firefly, Live on the Green, and more. This month, Conley will embark on a run of dates with Anderson East, followed by a late fall tour with Caamp. She will also play a headline show on Thursday, November 8th at Nashville’s Basement East.
