Harmonies and Holiday Cheer: Guitar Girl Magazine’s 2020 Holiday Playlist

Floyd – “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”

San Francisco-based indie pop vocalist Floyd released her Christmas cover, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Floyd states, “To me, this song captures the essence of Christmas; that longing for love and the magic of a season where anything is possible, no surprise is too great, or a gift too big. It makes you want to believe and hope for something grand because, at Christmastime, it just might happen.”

 Michelle Malone feat. The Hot Toddies – Toddie Time

Soulful Americana singer-songwriter and proud Georgia native takes to some Holiday fun with jazz and blues based renditions of Holiday favorites on her trio’s spirited new record Toddie Time. Take a listen to “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.”

Dani Taylor – “Does It Snow in Nashville”

Fiddle, steel guitar, and broken-hearted questioning lend itself well to the vintage country “Does It Snow in Nashville” in the Holiday release from country vocalist Dani Taylor (co-written by Travis John Howard, best know for co-writing several hits of Miranda Lambert) features a story about “a musician leaving his hometown to follow his dream in Nashville and his childhood sweetheart wondering if he still thinks about her while he chases his dreams in country music.”

Liz Longley – A Little Magic

Liz Longley reflects on her newly released Christmas EP, “Without being able to see my family through this challenging year, I thought about some of our best times together, and months into staying at home, I started to write Christmas songs. Our holidays have always been a time where we reflect on the year we had and dream about the year ahead. I hope these songs allow people to reminisce on holidays past, and help to keep their spirits up in what will surely be a different holiday season.” Watch “Feels Like Christmas.”

Hope Waidley – “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”

Breakout artist Hope Waidley is ringing in the Holiday season with her rendition of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” which doubled as a protest song at its inception, promoting unity and peace amidst political disarray. Waidley’s warm, soulful vocals and tenderhearted spin on the track kindles a parallel sense of optimism for the future as this tumultuous year comes to a close.

Dolly Parton – A Holly Dolly Christmas

A very merry collection of songs in this joyful album by the legend herself—the first Christmas record from Dolly in over thirty years! Watch “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas” (with Michael Bublé).

Maddie and Tae – We Need Christmas

Tried and true Christmas classics abound in this country duo’s first Holiday album release. Watch “We Need Christmas.”

Carrie Underwood – My Gift

Carrie got into the Holiday spirit a bit early this year (we all need it more than ever!) as she gifted her fans with a brand new Christmas album a couple of months back in September, My Gift, which even includes a cover of the classic “Hallelujah” with R&B superstar John Legend. Runaway June – When I Think About Christmas

Country vocal trio Runaway June release their very first Christmas EP featuring two originals and three classic covers all showcasing harmonies and Holiday cheer all throughout! Watch “Christmas On The Radio.”

Margo Price – “River”

Margo Price’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River” is a hauntingly beautiful bare-bones take on the not-so-traditional Christmas song.

Meghan Trainor – A Very Trainor Christmas

Pop, funk, sass, and soul are married together for this musical offering from pop diva Meghan Trainor, which also features special collaborations with legends like Earth, Wind & Fire. Listen to “Holidays”

Olivia Rox – “It’s Christmastime”

Silky vocals, sleigh bells, gospel choir—on the rise pop vocalist Olivia Rox pairs her songwriting in collaboration with world-renowned jazz artist Warren Hill, who also happens to be her father. The song reminisces of the magical memories of childhood/family Christmas time spent in Colorado.

Jessica Lynn – “It’s Just Not Christmas” 

Brooklyn born country singer Jessica Lynn released her latest single “It’s Just Not Christmas,” a sweet but melancholy Christmas ballad describing the longing that many experience while spending their Holiday season without their loved one(s) and the hope that next year’s wishes of togetherness will come true.

Tori Kelly – A Tori Kelly Christmas 

Powerhouse vocalist Tori Kelly’s first-ever holiday album produced by Kenny “Babyface” Edmunds features a duet with two, newly penned Christmas themed original songs and Yuletide favorites. Watch “Let It Snow.”

Carly Rae Jepsen – “It’s Not Christmas til Somebody Cries”

Quirky Canadian pop singer and songwriter known for her infectious music releases a cheeky new Holiday single sure to catch your attention word for word with synth-pop vibes all around.

JoJo – December Baby

The R&B/pop songstress dazzles us with a stunningly harmonious Christmas record set to lay down powerful vocals, groove, and soul.

Ava Max – “Christmas Without You”

Breakout pop vocalist Ava Max releases a standout Christmas-themed love song full of riffs and runs galore.

Terri Clark – It’s ..Cheers!
