Jewel Covers Maggie Rogers’ “Alaska”; New Album ‘Freewheelin’ Woman’ Out Now

SUMMER 2022 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH TRAIN ON SALE NOW

Today, four-time Grammy-nominated, Multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Jewel shares her potent rendition of Maggie Rogers’ hit song “Alaska,” as the bonus track to her recently released new studio album Freewheelin’ Woman, via her own Words Matter Media. The music video features drone footage of Jewel in the picturesque setting of Alaska. Given Jewel’s background as an Alaskan native, her performance of the song comes with a depth and appreciation of her homeland.

Jewel shares, “I know very well the natural beauty of the Alaskan landscape that inspired Maggie’s song. When I first heard it I felt an instinctual draw to the scene she’d created. I also love her meditative lyrics referencing the ‘air in between.’ Alaska has shaped so much of who I am, and mindful breathwork is a practice I use everyday, so I feel a kindred connection to Maggie’s take on Alaska; like two artists sharing a similar experience, treading the same wooded paths. I’m excited to share my take on it.”

Freewheelin’ Woman presents Jewel’s boldest body of work to date, revealing entirely new dimensions of her breathtaking voice. The album finds Jewel working with producer Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, P!nk, Avril Lavigne), dreaming up a soulful and groove-heavy sound partly inspired by the classic R&B records made at Muscle Shoals. Jewel regards the album as the most recent milestone in her lifelong devotion to following her truth.

Audiences will get a chance to see Jewel and her band perform music from the new album live on tour this summer with Train, who are also featured on her recent single “Dancing Slow.” The tour kicks off on June 8 in Mansfield, MA, with 35+ shows including New York, Nashville, Dallas, San Diego, and more before concluding on August 6 at the legendary Red Rocks venue in Colorado, Jewel’s current home state.

Jewel also continues to be a leader in the conversation around mental health, with her non-profit, the Inspiring Children Foundation, which for nearly two decades has provided mentorship and mental-health resources for at-risk youth. For Mental Health Awareness Month she has partnered with Nature of Mindfulness and The Big Silence to bring 21 days of free meditation and mindfulness practices daily on her website Jewelneverbroken.com and on Instagram @neverbroken.

For Mental Health Action Day on May 19, Jewel has partnered with MTV to host individual mediation and yoga programs for all ages throughout the day for free on Jewelneverbroken.com. For more information see HERE.
