Hailing from Mississippi, 16-year-old Hillary Reese knew from an early age that music was in her future after garnering over 300,000 social media followers from her Facebook videos that went viral.
We’re pleased to premiere the young singer, songwriter and instrumentalist’s official music video for her latest single, “Beautiful Mistake,” directed by Forrest Proctor. The song was written by Jimmy Ritchey (George Strait’s “I Gotta Get to You” and “Twang,” Jake Owen’s “The One That Got Away” and “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You”) and produced by former Little Texas Member, Jeff Huskins.
Reese gives us the scoop on “Beautiful Mistake”:
On what drew her to “Beautiful Mistake,” which was written by Jimmy Ritchey (George Strait, Jake Owen, etc.)…
This song hooked me within the first line. I’m very particular when it comes to cutting songs that I don’t write, but I knew that the lyrics and melody were so special, so I couldn’t pass it up.
On how involved she was in creating the concept for the video with director Forrest Proctor…
I’ve been the creative director on every video that I’ve released. It’s so important for me to visually represent what I see and feel when I listen to the song. I am one of those people that loves everything creative, so it’s definitely a fun time when we get to make videos.
On shooting the video…
We shot the video in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, on the beach, downtown and also in an empty warehouse. We used two very different types of scenes to represent the different emotions you feel throughout a breakup. My co-star was Tyson Fields. We’ve known each other since we were little, taking singing lessons at the same place. Now we are both pursuing music, so it was a really neat experience.
On what message she hopes listeners and viewers of “Beautiful Mistake” take away from the song and video…
This song is one I feel that can really resonate with everyone. I hope that people understand that it is okay to mourn a relationship of any kind, and that it is okay for it to run its course. Some things aren’t meant to last forever, and that is perfectly normal.
Short Bio:
From the heart of Mississippi, 16-year-old songstress Hillary Reese is a triple threat, singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, with a sound all her own that connects across generations of fans and genres. Hillary’s vocals and lyrics offer a balance between the charm of a southern belle and the ferocity of a steel magnolia. At only 8-years-old, she emerged on the music scene through a series of viral Facebook videos, which fast-tracked to millions of views and a loyal following of over 300,000 fans. Hillary quickly found herself traveling frequently to Nashville, where she has collaborated with industry heavyweights, including Dolly Parton’s producer, Kent Wells, and former Little Texas Member, Jeff Huskins, who produced her new single, “Beautiful Mistake.” Written by Jimmy Ritchey (George Strait’s “I Gotta Get to You” and “Twang,” Jake Owen’s “The One That Got Away” and “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You”) and produced by Huskins, “Beautiful Mistake” is a bittersweet ballad that reflects on a lost love. The rawness and sincerity in Hillary’s voice capture the maturity of the introspective song. “Beautiful Mistake” follows Hillary’s latest single, “All the Good Ones are Crazy,” which was released in August of 2022 with a music video that has already amassed over 227,000 views.
