The Secret Sisters To Release “Quicksand” EP Featuring Fiona Apple & The Strokes Covers Tomorrow

The Secret Sisters will release the Quicksand EP tomorrow via New West Records. The four-song set was produced by Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes, John Paul White) at Sundrop Sound in Florence, AL.  It features two new original songs by Laura and Lydia Rogers as well as their renditions of Fiona Apple’s “Heavy Balloon,” and The Strokes’ “Someday.” The Quicksand EP follows The Secret Sisters’ Grammy-nominated albums Saturn Return (2019) and You Don’t Own Me Anymore (2017) which were both produced by Brandi Carlile and Phil and Tim Hanseroth.

Today, Consequence has premiered the Quicksand EP a day ahead of its release alongside a track by track discussion with Laura and Lydia Rogers. Hear the Quicksand EP in its entirety and see the Twiggy Boyer-directed video for its title track HERE.
Of the two covers, Laura and Lydia Rogers told Consequence, “The two of us fell hard for Fiona Apple’s latest album Fetch the Boltcutters.  The angst and emotion wrapped up in her songs seemed timely in the midst of a global pandemic and lockdown.  ‘Heavy Balloon’ felt like a song we could shape with our own sound, and we specifically wanted to channel the spirit of the Shoals into our version of the song.  It was our first real foray into paying homage to our hometown and its musical legacy, which challenged and changed us in all the best ways.” Of The Strokes “Someday,” they offered “We have never been known to shy away from a good cover song, but some songs just never cross our mind to remake. This song is one of those – a classic by one of our favorite college-era band obsessions.  We felt the best way to interpret this song was to turn it into a dreamy, dark country ballad. Our hope was to transform the lyrics from frantic, fun energy into a heavy and moody vibe – no surprise there.”
The Secret Sisters have also announced 2021 North American tour dates. Launching August 25th in Alexandria, VA, the trek features stops at the Sheridan Opera House in Telluride, CO, the Casbah in San Diego, CA, two nights at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, WA and more. Please see the tour dates below.
