Press Release: Highly respected producer Charlie Peacock is producing the debut album of Nashville country female trio Maybe April.
Maybe April’s Katy Bishop, Kristen Castro and Alaina Stacey write all their songs and switch off on instruments and singing lead. “We do country music that branches into Americana and folk,” Castro says. “It is a mix of all of us – Alaina is folk, Katy is country, and I’m indie pop.”
Maybe April has generated tremendous industry buzz since forming about two years ago. They were invited to perform at a GRAMMY® week event called “A Song Is Born,” which was the 16th Annual GRAMMY Foundation® Legacy Concert in Los Angeles that also featured Bonnie Raitt and Kris Kristofferson, as well as Joy Williams of The Civil Wars. Now, Maybe April shares the same producer as The Civil Wars, as well as Chris Cornell, Switchfoot, The Lone Bellow, Holly Williams, and Brett Dennen.
Bishop, 20, is from Jonesboro, AR, where she began writing songs at 14 and making twice-monthly trips to Nashville. Castro, 20, is from Simi Valley, CA. She has been playing guitar for 10 years and wrote her first song at 14. Stacey, 19, was raised in a family of musicians in Chicago, singing as long as she can remember and writing songs since age 13. Bishop and Castro are currently recording industry students at Middle Tennessee State University.
The three met in 2012 while attending GRAMMY Camp® in Nashville. They were barely more than strangers when they decided to group together and present themselves as a trio. After all moving to Nashville in the fall of 2013, they began writing and have since performed hundreds of shows. In addition to appearing at Nashville venues such as the Listening Room, Tin Roof, Puckett’s, and the High Watt, they embarked on their first cross-country tour this summer.
The trio is excited to work with Peacock, who has produced some of their favorite groups, including The Civil Wars and The Lone Bellow. They are currently in pre-production and hope to release the album early next year.
