New Company Pairs Established and Aspiring Songwriters

Behind every song, there’s a songwriter who weds the music and the lyrics together in a fresh way, and Songwriting University was created to pair hit songwriters with established and aspiring writers. In addition, the company will be partnering with universities and colleges across the country to provide students with a creative songwriting outlet. The Nashville-based company is helmed by hit tunesmiths Billy Sprague and Joe Beck and entrepreneur and publisher Gary Glover.

“Here at Songwriting University we have two missions,” said author, songwriter, and recording artist Sprague. “To honor and celebrate songs and songwriters and to help get the music inside you out into the ears and hearts in your world and maybe even around the world.”

Whether someone has a desire to write songs and is ready to start or someone who has a goal to take their songwriting to a new level, Songwriting University facilitates co-writing opportunities for writers at every level to connect either in person or virtually to create new music. Staff writers such as Bobby E. Boyd, Randy Thomas, Bill Shore, Bruce Carroll, and others provide direct expertise, information and inspiration as they collaborate through the Songwriting University system.

The process is simple. Interested writers visit www.SongwritingU.com, fill out a simple form relating to genres, styles, designate strengths in lyrics or music, instrument(s) played and level of expertise and experience. Songwriting University then pairs the writer with one of their faculty writers. Prices range from $249 for a two-hour online video call co-writing session to $799 for two three-hour in-person co-writes in Nashville.

Songwriting University also offers production services with top studios, producers, studio players and singers for high-quality demo recordings. The company also offers music publishing consulting and information and advice for writers by phone how to legally protect their created works.

Songwriting University will also host a songwriting in-the-round session each month in partnership with the George Shinn College of Entertainment and the Arts at Lipscomb University. These monthly shows will showcase at the Well Coffee House, 4002 Granny White Pk in Nashville, and a special twist at the end of each show will see the Songwriting U faculty writing an original song in real time with the audience. The December 6, 2018 show called, “An Original Christmas,” starts at 7:30 p.m. and the audience will write an original Christmas song.
