The Secret Storm has well and truly hit. With intimate yet huge-sounding songs, the genre-bending act have delved into brooding themes of Americana and the complexities of love and lust, reaching new levels of musicality and emotional correspondence.
Fronted by vocalist and chief songwriter Lauren Hoffman, the group’s latest EP, The Dragon, goes even deeper, canvassing the furthest corners of the heart and the very essence of sensual intensity. Having lived many musical lives, Hoffman’s new direction is bold and breathtaking, incorporating post-punk and grunge rock influences while maintaining her long-standing talent for crafting airtight pop melodies. It’s clear that after four full-length indie-pop records, the Virginia-based artist has shifted gears. Hoffman says of the new song, “The Dragon is a song that I wrote a long time ago, but felt self-conscious about for a while (laughs). Now that I’m exploring the weirder and darker side of my sound, it finally feels right.”
Reemerging with a new sound, a new name, and a new direction, The Secret Storm are a force of nature!
