The Anti-Groupies Drop New Single/Music Video “Read the Room”

Based in the South Bay area of SoCal, all-women punk rock band The Anti-Groupies recently unveiled their new single/music video, “Read the Room,” a track produced by Matt McJunkins of A Perfect Circle/Puscifer.

Talking about the band’s name – The Anti-Groupies – vocalist/guitarist Cassiday told Highwire Daze, “The whole concept for the name came from an experience I had going to one of my first gigs and the bouncer wouldn’t let me inside the gig because he told me ‘groupies weren’t allowed in yet’ and didn’t believe that I was in one of the bands that were playing that night and I knew if I were a guy that he would have a completely different attitude. I even had a guitar on my back.”

Made up of Kyla (drums), Sydney (bass), Cassiday (guitar, vocals), and Bella (guitar), will enter the studio this month with producer Jim Wirt, who has worked with Incubus, Dial-7, Fiona Apple, and Centershift, to work on their next release.

The Anti-Groupies cite influences across an array of genres, such as Black Sabbath, Paramore, Maneskin, Sex Pistols, Rush, and Megadeth. In 2021, the band began performing, followed by dropping their debut single, “Blessing In Disguise,” followed by “Social Battery,” and “Voicemail.”

Their sound is edgy, loud, and captivating, while their attitude reflects the impudent rebelliousness of ‘90s punk. With their message of female empowerment, The Anti-Groupies are a tour de force.

Performing throughout SoCal, The Anti-Groupies have shared the stage with Speed Of Light, Minor Strut, The Dropoffs, Prestyn Smith, and Tomorrow’s Anthem, regaling audiences with their rip-snorting, ferocious sound.

“Read the Room” rolls out on sneering guitars flowing into a galvanizing rhythm topped by Cassiday’s scorn-laced vocals. Kyla’s gonzo drumming infuses the beat with thick, rumbling energy, giving the tune a tight, shuffling motion. A visceral, blistering guitar solo by Bella wraps the song in incandescent highlights.

Reminiscent of L7, The Anti-Groupies have it going on, pumping out muscular layers of viscous, growling punk rock with oomph.
