Baltimore-based art-rock/pop/psych-folk duo Waterplanet recently released their latest single, “Under, Over,” the first single from Waterplanet’s upcoming EP, set for release in October 2025.
Vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Millie Landrum says, “I hope ‘Under, Over’ inspires people. We’re living through pretty dark and divisive times, so I’d love to make someone feel better or help them change the channel to feel a bit happier. It’s a song about reconnecting to nature, to others, whatever helps re-center you.”
Produced by Ryan Gallagher and Waterplanet at Plaid Dog Recording, the song’s lyrics were inspired while Landrum was lying on the grass at Glastonbury Abbey, which some people hold to be the energetic epicenter of the earth.
Made up of Landrum and James Hesser, Waterplanet’s sound merges elements of pop, rock, and psychedelic folk. The duo has shared the stage with a multiplicity of artists and toured throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southeast.
“Under, Over” rolls out on an appealing acoustic guitar topped by Landrum’s clear, rich, evocative voice. A potent mid-tempo beat enters, along with a throbbing bassline and almost jangly electric guitars. As the tune adds resonance, the guitars take on explicit jangly colors, infusing the harmonics with optimistic textures. When Hesser’s bass vocals enter, the lyrics assume delicious, dreamy textures.
“Shouting into the air / We really don’t care / If nothing comes out / Shouting over our heads / The more we will send / Our message of love / A million strong / A million high.”
Tinted with shimmering psych-folk-rock colors, “Under, Over” steps into the spotlight with delectable retro veneers and superb vocals.
