As a guitar teacher, I was excited at the opportunity to review the Martin Acoustic D JR. Straight out of the box it was in tune, the setup was nice, and I found it very easy and comfortable to play sitting down to just relax or playing in a small setting – possibly the most comfortable acoustic I’ve ever played.  

I’ve been practicing some tricky fingerpicking patterns recently and have tested them out on various acoustics, including a full-sized Martin dreadnought. I tried them on the D JR and found this guitar the best by far. I could do pull-offs, hammer-ons, bends, and slides with ease, too. The D JR is ideal for beginner players as well as experienced players as the smaller shape would work for children as the body is not too big and is great for smaller hands. It also makes for a really good travel guitar.  

As for tone, it has that lovely Martin tone you would expect, and it has a slightly more punchy, mid-range with some nice deep, rich low ends like you would expect to find on a full-sized guitar. The tone of this junior is better than most full-sized acoustics. The volume is great too, better than you would expect!
