Rising Canadian pop artist, Carly Rae Jepsen, who has recently had a big hit with “Call Me Maybe,” will be rewarded with Billboard’s Rising Star Award on on November 30, in New York City. The award is part of the Woman of the Year ceremony, which this year’s recipient is Katy Perry. “Call Me Maybe” spent nine weeks as No.1 on the Hot 100 chart. The single,heralded by fellow Canadian pop star, Justin Bieber, was quickly launched after siging with Schoolboy Records and Interscope Records. The single was also named as Billboards 2012 Song of the Summer.
Jepsen preceed’s the award’s recipients, including Nicki Minaj, Jazmine Sullivan, and Colbie Caillat, who was the first recipent of the Rising Star award in 2008. In reference to the honor from Billboard, Jepsen states, “As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award. I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.”
The event will be held at Capitale in New York City on November 30.
