NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The lead single from A COWGIRL’S SONG soundtrack, “Oklahoma Stars” performed by The Imaginaries, is available now via Epochal Artists Records / INgrooves. A COWGIRL’S SONG is slated for theatrical and VOD release from Samuel Goldwyn Films on April 22. To stream or download “Oklahoma Stars,” click HERE, and to pre-order the full soundtrack, click HERE.
The Imaginaries, composed of Maggie McClure and Shane Henry, wrote and produced the soundtrack, served as film producers and also star in A COWGIRL’S SONG alongside Cheryl Ladd, Darci Lynne and Savannah Lee May. The Americana and country-driven soundtrack features additional recordings from The Imaginaries and each of the leading actresses.
Written by McClure, Henry and Shane Alexander over Zoom during the height of the pandemic, “Oklahoma Stars” was inspired by the husband-and-wife duo’s characters in the film. Wide Open Country exclusively premiered the first listen to the “cinematic love song that parallels their own romance (Bobbie Jean Sawyer).”
Parade debuted a first look at the official video for “the sweetly melodic love song” that features “ringing acoustic guitar, gorgeous harmonies and a love story with a happy ending (Laura Whitmore).” The video includes footage from the coming-of-age drama, written and directed by Timothy Armstrong and produced by Armstrong, Starla Christian and Jessica Barondes.
The fourth installment in the COWGIRLS ‘N ANGELS franchise, A COWGIRL’S SONG follows an aspiring but adrift teen singer who goes to live with her grandmother, once a country music legend, that has fallen on hard times after the death of her husband five years earlier. Together they overcome adversity and find redemption through their love of music.
To celebrate the release, The Imaginaries and Darci Lynne will perform the soundtrack, new originals and fun covers at A COWGIRL’S SONG IN CONCERT on April 22 at Tower Theatre in Oklahoma City. Proceeds from the event will benefit Amberley Snyder Freedom Foundation, which provides opportunities for those with special needs and disabilities providing confidence driven activities as well as life changing support. Snyder, a paralyzed professional barrel racer, also appears in the film. For tickets and more information, click HERE.
The Imaginaries has collaborated with Armstrong on many of his films since 2011 when McClure’s song “Good Morning and Good Night” was chosen to be featured in the opening credits of COWGIRLS ‘N ANGELS. McClure and Armstrong wrote a custom song for A COWGIRL’S STORY, which The Imaginaries performed on camera in the film released in 2017. For A COWGIRL’S SONG, The Imaginaries co-wrote four original songs for the film’s soundtrack with Armstrong and produced it all virtually due to the pandemic. The film soundtrack also features Oklahoma legend Byron Berline (Vince Gill, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan) on fiddle and mandolin, who sadly passed away just a few months after the soundtrack recording session.
